Quick header ?

I've searched the forum to no avail, but are any other headers available for my truck (ie. chevelle, camaro, etc) that would be compatible with my setup without any major modification/trimming. It's just that I bought my truck with hedman long tube headers and constantly have leaks and whatnot, even after the copper gasket upgrade. Now it's to the point that I actually sheared off two of my header bolts inside my head on the passenger side, and the driver side is at the point of rubbing on my lower a arms thus piercing a couple pin holes. Ground clearance is definitely the culprit. Being that i'm an avid waterfowl hunter and from south louisiana i tend to end up on the road less traveled more often than not during hunting season. Plus we don't have a reputation for having the best roads around. Believe me, I'm already searching for my K20 of choice lol! Anyway, i have a 350/350 combo with a/c and power steering and was wondering where to look for a better alternative which would allow me to keep my exhaust inside the frame rails if at all possible. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Quick header ?

When I got my headers, I ordered the ones for a class A motor home. They have thicker flanges (3\8 compared to 1\4") and thicker tubes (14 ga comp to 18 ga). Can't help you in fitment. Mine are Headman Big Block, and still in box. I don't know if the other brands do this or not.

Summit has them small block

they also list 69890-lso I don't know what the difference is but they are over $100 cheaper. Guess you would have to ask them.

Re: Quick header ?

Wow! I guess u learn something new everyday. Those seem to be pretty stout compared to the norm. I never seen those before, but they still wouldn't remedy my ground clearance issues. thanks anyway for the heads up. the search continues.....

Re: Quick header ?

I used Sanderson (flanges are so thick that gaskets are supposedly "optional")- Used a pair of 3/4 Headers for a Big-Block Chevelle and they fit and performed BEAUTIFULLY! Truck was bagged so I didn't want the standard truck "full-length" style.

Re: Quick header ?

Heres the Hedman 69640. They looked tight at first but I think they are fine. Others have used them here are my pics.

Re: Quick header ?

Any header will allow inside the rails exhaust. Header fitment isn't much of a problem on these trucks either. The issues that may come up are with manual linkage and/or ground clearance on a low truck. The 3/4 length/car-type headers solve the ground clearance problem but run right through where the manual shift linkage is. With automatics they work fine. When running the exhaust I like to cut 4" holes in the trailing arm crossmember and weld in pipe to put strength back in the crossmember. ECE sells a crossmember with holes for exhaust,as well as giving better clearance for 1pc driveshafts on lowered trucks.
