A Harbor Freight dont buy - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I was doing a little cleaning in the shop today and decided I needed some storage bins close to my work bench. I figured I would just run to Harbor Freight and pick something up ... heck it was just some little bins.

I dont bag on Harbor Freight because you get what you pay for ... pretty simple as far as Im concerned. Ive bought stuff there Im happy with and some that wasnt great, but got me through what I needed it for. When I need something to last I usually try to buy good ol made in USA.

Im just tossing this out there in case you were like me and wanted some inexpensive little storage boxes. They came with a little hanger rack you screw on to the wall and then hang your boxes on the rack. They didnt have any on display but the picture on the box sure looks pretty =) so for under 15 bucks I grabbed em up.

Got em home and opened. Really cheap (not surprising huh? lol) The little hook parts on the bins themselves were kind of bent in so it made em hard to get hung up. I went to carefully bend one out a touch and it broke right off.

I dont want to turn this into a bash Harbor Freight thread, just letting you guys know this is one thing to avoid is all.

Funny how they can be make it here from China unscathed but easily break in your hands. I still shop there though I know it's a gamble. Thanks for the heads up.

We have a store like that, its called Princess Auto. They sell just about everything, the only problem is that the quality is not the greatest.

ive got about ten of those you can have. i dont use them they sit piled in the corner.
good ones too
all manilla and strong. my shelf i had them on fell over the other day and none got crushed.

You should have read the customer reviews first
Most said they were junk. Personally,I like the coffee can method

I had never checked out the site. I didnt know there is a review section. Ill have to check it out again. Glad yours is working out for you Kurt. My mounting board is kind of warped and the lips on the back of the cups are all nearly smooshed flat against the back side of the cup.

I went down to Lowes and picked up a 18 drawer box that will work for now. I also grabbed a bunch of better hooks for the pegboard on the wall side of my bench.

I have those as well, I ended up having to run a screw into each one to keep them on there. If you walked by them, the wind would just about blow them off. They are still up and functioning, just not removable. LOL

Well it looks like a couple of guys have em and like em just fine. So maybe if you want to check em out make sure you open the box first and check fitment before you buy.

I think I have a hundred of them (5 sets). They seem to do all right. There might have been one or two bins that had an issue, but not enough to take them back. I have filled one to the top with 1/2 grade 8 bolts and it still hangs there just fine. For the heavier stuff you need to run a screw into every hole in the bracket...if it's just holding light stuff like wire connectors and shrink tube you only need one or two screws.

built a shelf under the bench 8 inches down to hold the coffee tin collection(25+prob)
still room to pile the rubbermade buckets under it too
i used the Maxwell house all steel ones not the newer aluma foil ones(collapse to ez)
the tins fit 6X2 layers deep in the large tupperware buckets(great to move em)
and a couple of the small clear plastic drawers,for smaller stuff
only pic i found of tools and tins and buckets and it's a close up of the seat frames Vacation customs made for the truck and why i replaced them
