67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Hi guys, I drove an hour today to go and look at a 67 c-10 pu I found on Craigslist. The truck is in pretty rough shape but it could be saved. Long story short I would like to tap the great knowledge that lurks round these parts. Whats the story with the "small window" trucks. Are they uncommon, special in some way? I looked at the spid in the glovebox and the list was pretty short, nothing to special. Except it said something special about the heat, heavy duty or something like that. Thanks in advance.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

The small back window was standard on the '67 and the large, panoramic, one was optional.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

1967 had small rear windows stock with a big rear window as a option. code A10 PANORAMIC CAB
1968 had large rear window as standard. No small window option in 68
EDIT: shyguy you beat me to it

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Thanks guys. I am going to think about it. The bed side is beat in on the pass side and the windshield is so rusted it looks like it could fall out. The drivers side rocker is so rusted you could throw a 10lb ham out the hole, or fred flintstone the thing to a stop if need be. But I cant help but want to bring it home.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

I got the story on the '67 Small Window DIRECTLY from the man that designed the whole truck! Mr. Harry Bentley Bradley. Mr. Bradley being a hot rod & custom fan (he also designed the first series of Hot Wheels in 1967 among MANY other things) said the small window in the light series pickup was to evoke the look and feel of the early 3-Window Coupes like the classic '32 Ford.
He was pretty pissed when they eliminated that window in '68 and even more upset when they changed the nose in '69 because his '67 design was eventually deemed "too pretty" compared to the competition. HA HA! I and many others think the "slant nose" is indeed the BEST looking truck design EVER!

If you heard that story ANYWHERE else I'm the person Harry Bradley told it to directly and then it was printed in Sport Truck and Chevy Truck magazines 10 years ago.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

It's really simple. GM offered a standard cab and a deluxe cab since 1947. The deluxe cabs had larger windows and the standard cabs had the usual smaller glass. This carried over for into '67,but the large window could be ordered in even a base truck.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Wasn’t it a federal mandate change that axed the small window after 67? I assume for blind spot issues? I wish mine was not in such bad shape, love the look of the small window.

Wow that was some great information. Thanks for the info, I am going to give this guy a call and see what his bottom line is and if I can't do it, I'll post a link on the board with a better more honest description than the CL add. Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

It's off topic, but I see you have a '71 Superglide. What condition is that in? Is it still original look paint and fender/seat? We have another member here that restored his '71 to original. I could get you two together if you want. He is also a panel guy ('67). Nice selection of bikes,BTW.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Special-k, The 71 super is in boxes allover the garage. Right now it is a Flh with faring and bags and a cool retro trunk. But the fiberglass rear fender and seat are on the wall and right now I am getting all the little shift and brake linkages and such together. Also if any of you guys ever have any Harley or motorcycle questions feel free to send them my way. I have been a Harley mechanic for over 10 years. Oh and i'll get a pic of the fl for ya
