Need some advice on a truck cutting out, weak going up hill.

I have a 1980 chevy k20 long bed with a 350. have had it for a couple years and its been a great truck.

Latley it has been cutting out almost stalling on heavy acceleration especially going up hills. Ive changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. none have made any difference.

Truck starts and idles great. runs pretty normal at low speeds. i have been avoiding any hills to and from work. but i would really like to get it right again.

I am thinking maybe fuel pump or vac advance in distributer or maybe the carb. but money is tight and i thought maybe someone would have some advice or thoughts before i just start spending money guessing.

Thanks for any help!

change the fuel inlet screen in the carb? If you got a way to check it test the fp if not buy one they are cheap. It very well could be the carb we had that happen to our 84 with a quadrajet, cut out and missed bad going up hill or under hard throttle. We swapped carbs to an edelbrock I rebuilt and was just fine afterwards.

A coil breaking down or a week or failing ignition control module can cause a mis-fire under a load. Most of your big box auto parts stores can test them for you.

I had that problem and it was bad cats. I had to replace my entire exhaust system.

Thanks for the replies, I dont have cats and changed the fuel filter already. i will grab a fuel pump after work if i can find one locally.

Then i will try coil or module next. probably save carb for last, never have been to great at rebuilding qjets lol.
thanks again!

Fuel pump was the problem. I hit the biggest hills I could find on the way in this morning and it didnt cut out at all.

Thanks for the help everyone! its nice to have others opinions sometimes before just spending money lol
