5 bolt leaf spring rear info

Hello,
I am building a 1968 GMC short-step at this time and the truck has a six bolt leaf rear. I am converting to five bolt leaf rear and having trouble locating one. I know an original five bolt leaf is hard to come by so I was told I can convert a newer 73-87 rear to fit, but what is required? Looking to put a set of 3.73 in it. Any info will be helpful. P.S. how much wider is the newer rears than our older ones. Thanks Dan

Classic Truck Mag had a artical on this for a coil spring rearend
but they did touch on the leaf spring rearend.
Find a 12bolt with the gears you want and then have the saddle plates changed the fit the 68. Try Early Classic.com
