disk brakes for rear need advice /help thanks

i am wanting to turn my truck to disk brakes in the rear ,it already has disk in th front but would like to convert the back to disk as well would like to be able to go to a junk yard and just rape parts off a newer tahoe or somthin would like to be safe but cheap as can get it , thanks rick

6 lug or 5 lug. There are several ways to do this. I converted mine with the LT1 F-body calipers and brackets from board vendor Captianfab. My truck is 5 lug.

i am running 72 5 lug suspesion so i will need parts that will comply with 72 suspesion

Take a look at a front or rear rotor for a 69/78 Cadillac Eldorado or 69/78 Olds Toronado
They are pretty common an not all that expensive. If you use the 76/78 Eldo rear calipers they have parking brake pieces built in. You would still have to come up with caliper brackets but that shouldn't be that hard.

thanks were would i be able to get brackets to comply with those calipers and my axle also would i still be able to run my 72 steel rims

I just bought the brackets for the caddy swap from a guy in mid west i believe.....I'll find the name and a pic of them mocked up . I needed to turn down the axle flange to fit the caddy rotor but that was about the hardest part. They are call steel tech solutions, he makes a nice bracket , takes a bit of time to get them, but they worked perfect www.steeltechsolutions.com

thanks man those look awsome i am looking forward to putting disks on the back drums are so complicated! and disks are easy to install!

The link is in my original post. It is also in the quote of my original post that n2trux posted. Here is is one more time. Click this link and look at CaptainFabs signature. This will get you headed in the right direction. There are several different ways to do this conversion. All have their pros and cons. The Cadillac calipers are bad about the e-brake not working after time. The Impalla calipers have no e brake provision. The F-body calipers are a nice piece and have an e-brake. All the info is out there You just got to dig a little. CaptainFab sells the brackets. He is great to deal with. Good luck on your project.

Your calipers are upside down! Bleeder needs to be at the top. Simple to fix...just swap the calipers side to side.

Nice catch Fitz.....nobody else looked that close Yes the bleeders do need to be on top to expell the air from the system. Maybe a couple too many Badwieser's (been there, done that) Nice looking setup,crazyL

Wow , it only took me this long to realize that someone else saw the pic's. That's not the bleeder valve, that is a cut off brake line that is sticking out. The bleeder is on the top in the front half that can't be seen. The Caddy calipers are marked "L" and "R"... ( Had to run down and look at the one on my work bench to double check)

how does the e brake work?? does it clamp the pads or is it in the disc like others I have seen

It clamps the caliper to the rotor. There is an arm that comes off the back of the caliper.The arm has a mechanism in side the caliper, when it is pulled it pushes the piston outward and clamps the pads on to the rotor
