How much wider is a '90 Van G20 axle compared to a C10 axle?!?

Hi guys,

I've been looking to find a 3.42 rear axle for my '86 C10 2wd which has a 2.73 right now.

Well, I finally found one, but it's a G20 Van unit 3.42 posi.
I read somewhere that G20 axles are wider, but I don't know HOW MUCH WIDER overall.
I do know that I need to modify the spring perches.
Just need to know the difference in overall length.

Thanx

erik

Re: How much wider is a '90 Van G20 axle compared to a C10 axle?!?

All I can tell you is from my experience. On my 89' 4x4 (6 lug) rear axle, the width from wheel mounting surface (wms) to wms is about 64". My front axle is wider and is closer to 67". There are 3/4 axles out there (6 lug) that come in both the 64" and 67" widths.

Generally speaking, the 2wd ones are more narrow and the 4wd ones are the wider ones.

But I think you are dealing with 2wd 5-lugs....

The 88+ truck rears are about half an inch wider per side than stock
