Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

As the title says...........Where are you stashing all of your parts for your respective builds? Since I don't have the room in the one car garage that my truck sits in, I have to keep everything in my basement. My wife looks at it almost every day and once a week I get the same question: " When are you going to finish this truck ? " or; " Why don't you sell it? ".

I threw in a couple of pics to show you what she sees. Excuse the boxes of baby clothes and accessories. This has also become the " Lost and Found " area of things my girls can no longer wear or play with. She would say that all of these parts are junk but, I think it's a gold mine (and this is only half of my stuff).......

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

I have a detached 2.5 car garage, it has my 73 in there, the rest is full of parts and tools. We haven't parked our DD's in there since we moved in back in 2000.

Next house will have a 2-3 car attached, and a seperate detached garage...hopefully a 4+ car.

Mine are in the attic. Our new house has a 2 car (the '74 in there is obvious, and I do catch a little flak for that), but I try to keep the parts out of sight, and out of mind.

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

I have one room in my shop that is "MINE" where I keep all my extra crap. Sadly, I'm about to run out of space in there and am waiting for a guy who rents space from me here (he does custom motorcycle painting) to move out so I can take over his two areas as well. Of course outside in my back lot here at the shop I have the trailer, extra truck (it's next), core supports, wheels, tailgates and a few other misc items. I have a cut up cab out in the shop I make the guys trip over, but I have a plan for it and don't want to toss it just yet.

Unless its something that I need to bring inside to work on because its too cold out there, I keep everything pretty much in my shop (my very own shop ). My husband is perfectly ok with that, lol.

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

I guess I am not the only one with the same problem. If these trucks were animals, they would call us " hoarders ".........I have had to split up my stash up into (3) piles at (3) locations : home , work, and my parents's house. My Dad told me a couple of months back that I am banned from storing anything over there anymore (currently residing there is my Camaro, a spare set of tires, two motors, and a box of 1st generation Camaro parts, etc.) Out of sight out of mind.... that's my story and I am sticking to it!!

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

My parts are stashed all over. Some are in the attic & cellar of my house,a few in the spare bedroom,a couple 72 headliners between the file cabinet and wall, under my bed,in the attic of my shop,in the attic of my picnic house, one side of my shop,In a cab stashed under a tarp,in my Suburban that's sitting, under the Suburban that's sitting, under the porch to the attic over my shop,on a trailer under a tarp...I guess that covers it. I don't have a wife and it doesn't bother my girlfriend. It's how it was when she moved in. You don't really see any of it unless you start looking. I've often wondered what life would be like without parts. Scary!

When I feel a little down, I haul my butt over to my shops and look at my projects and parts. They're not much, but they're MY treasures and shuffling 'em around and tinkering on 'em from time to time makes me feel good.
It's sure a lot cheaper than hanging out in bars and collecting STD's.

I agree, it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling even if you didnt REALLY accomplish anything.

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

Most of my stuff is in the 3 car garage,, but a couple things are in the 8x12 shed out back. mostly it's got all the yard crap to the rafters in there though... My wife wouldn't even know what I have or just got as it is. There was a time not to long ago that she walked into the garage as i was cleaning some parts and then grabbed something and proceeded out the door. As i peer over to her, she had my 1/2" drive ratchet. So I asked what the heck she was doing... She wanted to use it to drive a metal stake in the ground in the garden... She said "well it looks close enough to a hammer".. So I took it out of her hands and pointed to the door and said "OUT". she hasn't messed with my stuff since. But I did have to go and pound the stake in...... with a REAL hammer...

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

lets see here, in the house somewhere(ok everywhere, i just don't have an exact idea as of yet), all over the garage(in cabnets, hanging on the walls or from the ceiling, on shelves or in the attic), in the back yard(currently assisting with keeping the dogs in.....mostly), and well while not car/truck parts i do have 2 aero1d fuel drop tank tail cones from an ea-6b in my shed that i found in the metal dumpster at work. i seen them there, said to myself "well if its in the scrap bin then its fair game" just to justify it to myself. and my wife does call me a hoarder because i love old fender emblems, badges and hood ornaments. those are currently in a box in the garage in one of my cabnets

Since I have a garage now, most are in there and some are covered neatly under my deck (spring it gets turned into a shed). I had to bi*%h at her to keep her stuff out of my area.

Re: Where are you keeping your parts stash and how does your wife feel about it???

I keep my build, At my friends shop. It takes up about 1/4 of his shop
at the moment, Plus a storage room in the building out back. He doesn't
charge me, But I slide him some cash, Ever now and then. (that he doesn't have
to tell his wife about) I'm not married, So no problems there.
The only complaining I hear, Is when my daughter would come home from
school. And there would be boxes at the door, Heavy enough, That she
would have to drag them in. She would then call me, To tell me that my "other
child"(my truck) got another present in the mail.

special-K, I'm not surprised you parts everywhere. I saw the pics of your
driveway. You have your own fleet of vehicles. You selfish, Lucky S.O.B.
Well, If it's "He who dies with the most toys, Wins!!!"
Then you got me beat
