^^SP I'd say fix the leaks and clean it and the coloring should stop. Last edited by fattyarbuckle; 01-20-2011 at 08:47 PM. |

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
when my truck is idleing, you can smell fuel, so it is running really rich. The idle rpm is @1000, any less and the thing wants to die. what kind of adjustment should I try?

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
fix all the leaks first and then look for vacuum leaks...it should idle down more than that.

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
You need a rebuild kit. That carb is leaking from everywhere. Thats whats causing the discoloration. Generally a super rich and rough idle in a holley is a blown power valve. The power valve will come in the rebuild kit.

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
summit, jegs, advanceauto or autozone all have rebuild kits. I would 2nd the rebuild front could be the bowl or metering block/plate, side is the accelerator pump, could be the base to the body gasket also.
Idle speed should be around 800rpms in park warmed up to temp. and about 600 rpm in gear.

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
i know the newer plastic bowl screw gaskets always could use a tightening once in a while . yet since its that old and hasnt been gone thru , i'd overhaul it .

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
I've never rebuilt a carb before but I am willing to try. Or should I not even attempt this. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. How much does a kit cost and should I get any extra jets, pump cams, etc.? Also, what causes the powervalve to pop?

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
dont be intimidated . holleys are simple , a simple rebuild is easy . it looks to be a 600 vacumn secondary , it keep it stock . a power valve will come the kit and holleys in the last 15 years have a anti blow-put orifice in the base plate and rare blow one , all it is a small diaphram . a rebukld kit for that will run around $30 , have a couple cans of carb cleaner and patience . the kit wil come with instructions, an exploded view and a float gauge . if you need help, you can find it on this board .

Re: holley carb prob(pics)
Power valves can wear out due to age and crack. They will also blow or pop from a backfire through the carb. Theres no need to change any jets or pump cams etc. Just leave it be and install the rebuild kit.
