Where did you put the poppers and what kind of latches did you use?

I had mine under the bedrails on my stepside. But went to an AVS with remotes and did away with them. I also have 2 under the dash, 1 for each side.

I'd like to see where the actuators that push the door open when energized by the remote are mounted

Take a look at using "Bearclaw" latches. They kick themselves open and poppers are not needed.
