i have a factory 2wd 72 cst blazer that i been having for a year or so now, and i have recently come across a 70 4wd conversion roadster project that has kind of sparked my interest. i am debating on hacking up the 72 to make a roadster, just because of its rarity, but am still not sure which way i want to go. could youll please chime in and if possible post pics of any roadsters to help with the decision process

Please post a picture of your 2wd.

Ultimately, it's your truck - do what you want. If it is a stock truck in very good original condition, I probably wouldn't cut the body and find something that has already has body modifications or convert a 4wd.

I'm not a purest. I would love to have a customized 2wd blazer, but I also appreciate the stock trucks.

I will preface this by saying...your truck and money = your decision.....but since you did ask us....

If you plan to make a roadster, definitely find a cheap 4wd and do the conversion. The 2WD are fairly rare and much more valuable. Why chop one up with so many 4wd's out there that are available relatively cheap.

By all means cut up a 2wd, leave the nice 4x4s alone!

I'm kidding, but not really.

In all seriousness, I like to keep nice, unmolested sheet metal as nice and unmolested as possible. On the other hand if something is a rust bucket or been wrecked then by all means customize away and turn it into whatever you want. Once again that's just my opinion, it's your truck do what you want...yadda, yadda, yadda.

Cut up what you already have. Seriously, when's the last time you heard of someone getting top dollar because it's a 2wd? It's your vehicle, do what you want to do. You will go more $$$ for a custom roadster than a stock 2wd any day.

I don't know about "top dollar",... but a 4wd vs a 2wd in identical condition,... the 2wd will always bring more money.
I'm not a purist either,... but I'd use a 4wd blazer to make a roadster out of, not a 2wd.

Roadsters are cool,... but I like the top sometimes also.
(Like when its raining. Ha)

I totally agree that a 2wd will bring more than a 4wd, but not that it's worth so much money to go find another blazer when you already have one to make it a roadster if that's what he has planned.

I own a 2wd CST, and there are 2 things stopping me from doing a roadster:

1. Money...or lack of it
2. Money...or lack of it

Seriously though, I do like the top option, so if I ever were to do it, I'd make sure the top was still functional.

I consider them "show only" vehicles.

I left the top off my 2wd for an entire summer.
These things are rain magnets.
No matter what you do,... you constantly have to worry about the weather.

If you go to a show,... you really need to have a trailer to lock it up.
At the very least a car cover.
Plus,... have you ever tried to wash a vehicle with no top.
No matter how hard you try,... the interior gets wet.

I'm not knocking them, all together,... because I love the look.
I also like the option to put the top back on and cruise with the air on.

The end result,... you have to decide if it serves the purpose you want.

and you want to go back to a 2WD I will trade you mine ...

thanks guys for all the help. goin look at the roadster saturday. hoping it looks as good as pictures. do youll think i will have any inspection issues with the roadster without wipers etc?

I doubt it. There's no laws stating you have to have wipers. Use Rain X!

I wouldn't cut up an original 2wd but thats your choice. I bought my 2wd from a guy in Cali that had already cut down the doors and shaved some stuff, had it painted and enjoyed it for a couple of summers. I'm now in the process of putting the "original" doors back on it so it can be driven year round with or without the top.

The top of the doors on a blazer are about 2" higher then the bedside, it just doesn't look right.

You've only got to clean bird crap out of the carpet and off the steering a couple times for it to get OLD!
