Dual Fuel Tank Conversion

Hello I've got an 83 SWB it came with a single tank I'm curious if it would be worth the trouble to try and install a second tank in this thing. Or would it just be easier to just install a 22 gal fuel cell in the bed?

Re: Dual Fuel Tank Conversion

Welcome to the site. Why not add 45 gallons!! Yea!! You can add a suburban or Blazer tank where the spare tire mounts!
Blazer tank install: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/blazertank.html
Fuel cell: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/chas...ellinstall.htm

I have dual tanks on my 83. Cruise range is almost ~275 miles per tank! 500+ miles with both full tanks if I keep my foot out of it.

Get a catalogue from www.lmctruck.com. You can find all the stock parts you need. You will need to add a second fuel door or swap beds. I replace the origina bed on my truck. I found a single tank SWB bed. I had the passengerside fuel door added to the replacement bed.

Re: Dual Fuel Tank Conversion

Well when I did the body work on the truck I had to replace the pasenger side bed side I went ahead and got the one that had the fuel door in it. What all would I need to add. I know the selector valve, tank, fuel line and the switch inside the cab. Is there any pictures of the factory setup or some kind of diagram?

As far as the wiring goes if it were me, I'd locate one in a wrecking yard that had what I need for the wiring harness, carefully disconnect and remove it all without cutting anything anywheres then reinstall it all into my truck.

Re: Dual Fuel Tank Conversion

Yah I'm wanting a few more miles out of it in between fuel stops, the one 16 gallon tank does not go very far in these things...kind of guess it would if I would keep my foot out of it. I will go and look through some of the salvage yards and see what I can find. When the 700r4 goes in next week it should help out a little.
