What is this worth in your opinion? Thinking of buying
A local chevy dealer has this nice 01 LS Z71 on the lot, used with 85,000 miles on it. No rust underneath other than a bit of surface rust on some places. Its in SW PA so it looks pretty clean to me for a salt road truck. Its a 5.3 auto, PW, PL, AC, manual shift t-case. Im not gonna say the price, I just want to know what you think its worth. If they give me a good deal on my 05 Focus ST, I may pull the trigger if all the numbers are near what I am looking for.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Trust me, Ive been there a few times. They have it retail value at 10,500, the dealer wants 10,900. Seems a bit high because of the year but thats the reason I was asking here. My car has a trade in of 4300-5500. If I can get at least 5,000 for my car, Ill definitely consider it. I would like to get them to 9,900 on the truck and I think it would perfect, just don't know if they will give me that for the car and go that low on the truck.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Did u look at the trade in value on the truck or just the retail? they all have different prices. and yea the would be a good deal if they would go for that.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Your best bargaining tool is the fact that you aren't needing to trade your car in, and need the truck. If they know that you will do anything to get that truck then your deal will show that. Look on Kelley Blue Book, NADA, and also look at AutoTrader, and craigslist. Find similar trucks to compare with. The more knowledge you have the better deal you will get. Good luck, and it looks like a nice truck.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Blue book retail on the truck is 10,500, trade in is 7200-7900 so I know they prob paid 7500 for it. Its a 1 owner all dealer maintained trade in. I dont need to do this is my reasoning, I just kind of want a truck, so if they refuse to come close ill just leave, and I know someone at the local ford dealer that can get me what I want for the price I want (still a chevy of course). As far as I can find, other trucks are going around 9500-10,000. Ive done my research on this, now its just seeing if they can do what I want. I think I have the upper hand since I know exactly what I'm talking about and I wont let them push me around, and I don't have to do this.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
I know. They will still make over 1500 on it and thats the usual profit on most cars. Ill let you know what the stealership says after I visit them after work as long as I get there by 5.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
ALWAYS offer low. I'd start at $7,500. Get the price of the truck figured out, then talk trade. If they don't want to give what you want for your car, walk. They WILL call you back.
When I tried to buy my first "newer" (used) truck I had the dealer down to 17,500 from $21,000. Turned out they tried to jack me on the financing so I walked. Found another truck just like it for $15,900 and still own it. I just bought a brand new mustang (ford has zero incentives on the dang things except for leases and through Ford Credit). I got them down $3K on the car and got $500 over KBB for our trade in. *Almost forgot! That's a sharp looking truck!

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Well, got back from the dealer and it went about how I thought it would. He didnt move on the price, which isnt a huge issue, its under book by 600 now. I would have like it lower but oh well. What got me is he offered me 3500 for my car, which is 1500 lower than I wanted. So I'm gonna try to sell the car outright and maybe go back. I really want that truck too, I test drove it and it drove amazing for having 85,000 miles on it.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
That is a very nice truck! I think thats a good idea trying to sell the car outright. You might try getting pre approved for a loan from your bank or a credit union for the truck, then go back to the dealer and negotiate price.
85,000 miles is nothing for that truck. My '02 Z71 has 116,000 miles on it and besides replacing a leaky water pump, I have never had to replace anything else on it. Also, check out Edmunds.com for a true market value of the truck and print out everything to take back to the dealer.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
Thats tomorrows plan, he told me if I put money down I can hold it, even if its like $50, and its refundable should I decide otherwise. I might do that till I can sell my car, I dont want to pass up a super clean truck.

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
when i got my tahoe back in june the dealer wanted $13,999 for it. after a lot of hemming and hawwing and threatening to walk out and go to other dealers i finally talked them down to $10k with them paying the $2100 that i owed on my 94 and giving me $1500 on top of that. i'm happy about it, i just wish i woulda swapped out the rims before trading in my 94. but man were these guys pushy. worse than the guy that sold my wife her 01 acura

Re: What is this worth in your opinion? Thanking of buying
My .02 is not to put down any deposit. If it's not there when you get your car sold then it wasn't meant to be. I just think if you put a deposit down you're asking for hassles when it comes time to buy it. If you let them know that you like it, but aren't willing to lay a deposit down due to not coming to terms, and are willing to walk they may change their mind over the next few days. With a deposit they know they have you for the price they are currently at.
