Would a 99 tranny fit in my 78
I have a 78 c10 and the 700r4 crappped on me last night. would the trans out of a 99 swap over or would i have to take the nasty fuel injection motor with it?

It will bolt up to the engine but thats about it. You would need some kind of controller for it to shift and probably modify everything else from the crossmember to the driveshaft

you just have to move the cross member back and depending weather you have a short shaft or a long shaft in your 78 depends weather you will have to shorten your drive shaft any. the 99 trans will bolt in and work just fine but you will need a controler and to convert the speedometer to mecanical drive.

The ls trans will not fit the old style block without some spacers or adapters. the crank flange dimension to the bock face is different. Jay

I would just pull your 700r4 and have it rebuilt would be the easiest way.

^ double check your date, that should be a '92, GM went to the 4L60E in '93. You should have one of the best 700's, though.
