Gauge cluster removal

Really dumb question but how do you remover the gauge cluster (68 C20)from the dash. I took out all of the screws on the perimiter and the black trim around the steering collum but it still seems as though it is hooked. I see nothing that looks to be holding it but am aprehensive to pry on it

Re: Gauge cluster removal

Did you take the headlight switch out? There is a detent on back side that you have to press to get the pull switch out. You'll want to disconnect the battery as removing this switch will cause the headlights to stay on. Wiper switch will have to come off too, plus the choke cable if you have one. The wiper switch has a tiny screw that holds it on in the body of the switch.

Here is a link to a thread that contains a picture of the headlight switch assembly and the button you will need to press. The picture is in the sixth response...

Re: Gauge cluster removal

Unhook the speedo cable, wire harness, and oil line. Do you have all the knobs and chrome escutcheons off also?
