Pics of restored trucks with steelies and dog dish

I finally got my steelies, and real nice stainless dog dish hub caps. I'm planning on mounting bigger (maybe 33's) knobby tires and lifting around 3".

I'd like to see pictures of restored trucks with similar setup.

Re: Pics of restored trucks with steelies and dog dish

Congrats on the steelies! I powder coated mine white... they've got 33's BFG A/Ts on them. Posting pics of the wheels - so you can see a white powder coated wheel. Since I don't have them on a truck... I will not post that pic (but you can view them on my burb in the galley, or I can post a pic). My burb has around a 3 inch lift.

Re: Pics of restored trucks with steelies and dog dish

Lookin' good Dougo!!!

Here are two of my 8 x 15 6-lug set for my '85 Jimmy:

These are my 8.25 x 16.5s for my '72 K2500:

These 9.75 x 16.5s I had powder coated in '91. They've only been dismounted a couple years...just an example how they hold up. These were on two different trucks and they would still clean up bright white:

I have these for my '67 GMC project. They are dusty but very juicy red...8 x15:

Here's a picture of an old truck I had them on:

Nice looking wheels. I have 16x8 that I was going to powder coat white also. I have to original hubcaps that look like yours but are Chevy, but I need to get them repainted. Did you do your's yourself or have someone do it for you? I don't have a sprayer or the facility for one, so I would be rattle canning it.

I've seen your burb with the steelies and dog dishes before. I liked the look so much it was one of the ones that influenced my decision to go this route on my truck.

Thanks. I did the caps myself. Prep included a course pad to the areas to paint to rough up the stainless a little), thin (not wide, around a quarter inch wide = easier for masking off the edges) vinyl tape (high end auto parts store that sells paint materials) to mask off the edges, then masking tape/paper to mask of the larger areas and then rattle can. I had a special can mixed to match the GMC red (I have a guy in town who matches paint in a can, with a good nozzle - for rattle can jobs). I bought an over the counter high quality can of black - specifically for automotive trim.

In a nutshell - rattle can with a lot of prep involved.

I recall our PM exchanges... did that one lead pan out for you with these wheels? Glad to hear you found what you were looking for.

It's going to look nice when you're done!

Yes! Now that I look back through the chain of events, I see that you were the one that put me on the trail of these wheels! I got them from a great guy from Kansas City named Craig, who is a friend of 72IronMike. Thanks for hooking me up! It was a good deal and I met some really nice people along the way.

I use a " Snap On " hub cap tool with a section on rubber hose on the steel shank on the 8.25 and 9 3/4 wheels. See tool link

http://cgi.ebay.com/Snap-Hubcap-Hamm...-/250761056786

On the 14" I use 2 long flat tip screw drivers that I heated and bent the tips 90* about 3/4 before the bend . The caps come right off.

Thanks

I had a spring shop do the springs. It sits 2-3" over stock. I restored it to factory. It's a 292/4spd,tach,tilt,posi,am/fm,a/c,wood floor,dual battery,HD options,and 8.25 x 16.5s. I added the hub caps.

Should be soon now. I'm in contact with powder coaters and expect to get that done pretty quickly. Now all I've got to do is find the dough for a set of knobby 33's (without the wife revolting).

I think I figured all of your quote out except the scorched envelope. What's that?
