Body mount differences

Im in the middle of swapping my 77 chevy body to an 85 frame. I noticed that the mounts for the rear of the cab are different. I bought new mounts for a 77 thinking they were all the same. The 2 mounts on the 77 sit about an inch or two below the top of the frame, and the 85 sits about flush. Were the newer body style bushings shorter than the 77? all the other mounts look the same except the rear cab mounts.

Check with www.lmctruck.com. You'll notice part numbers are different for mounts.

Re: Body mount differences

I bought them from summit and didnt think much about it untill I looked yesterday and saw the difference. I saw summit had two different ones but wanted to see if anyone knew. I just got them in today so I think I have a month or so to return them. I was going to try and set the cab on the frame to see if it sits higher in the rear. I just thought it was weired that only the rear mounts would be shorter...

Re: Body mount differences

Are the motor mounts any different? Im trying to drop the motor in and it wont sit down all the way. Its just off by a little enough that the bolt wont start. Ive tried pushing and pulling the motor and it wont budge. It looks like if it would go straight down the holes will line up. I just dont understand I have never had a problem dropping a motor in.

Re: Body mount differences

You need the cab mount for the year of frame your going to be using. I put a 76 cab on my 85 frame and had to order the bushings for 80-87 trucks.

I believe there was a design change between 77 and 85. The newer style has a locking device made into it, where the older was just solid rubber. Still should be roughly the same. I WOULD JUST LOOSEN ALL THE MOUNTS (frame and engine)UP JUST A LTTLE, just enough to move. Then try and drop it in. It propbably just needs a little give that it can't get! David

Re: Body mount differences

Well I tried take loose the mount some and even took it all the way out and tried it different ways and still wouldnt go. Summit says the mounts work on 1975 to 86 with a 350 4x4. Unless they sent me the wrong mounts or im just not seeing something im at a lost.

Re: Body mount differences

If you didn't loosen the frame mounts, do that. They aren't very easy to do...... You have to hold the bolt heads with a wrench inside the crossmember while loosening the nut outside. Do it just enough to move. That might do the trick?

Re: Body mount differences

Didn't think about that but wish I did. But I did finally get it to sit in the mounts and bolt it up. But what a PITA it was. Anyway all there is to do now is drill ne wholes for the crossmember for the transfercase, throw the cab on it, and wire everthing back up. Once I get everything done ill try and share some pictures.
