Re: any input on the differences in electric fans

What motor do you have? I have read on here that some people go to the junk yard and get fans and others order stock fans for other vehicles that work.

You could do a search on "electric fans".

I tried a dual electric fan setup on my '92 K-3500 with a 454 and did not like the results so I went back to the stock clutch fan set up.

If you go with electric fans you will need to make sure that your alternator puts out enough to run them besides the other electrical loads you have.

I am sure some one else will chime in with more info for you.

Re: any input on the differences in electric fans

i am running a throttle body injected 350, i have a 140 amp alt, but also have two Viair 480 compressors and a pretty big stereo system to think about also... i am looking at Summit at part # DER-16927, it is Derale brand, but says it pulls 50 amps

Re: any input on the differences in electric fans

I went through the same research that you did and wound up doing the jeep electric fan upgrade in the FAQ, i think. I am very happy with it and pulls a lot of air. You can get the electric fan temp switches that will ramp up the fan when it kicks on instead of it just kicking on at full power.

The 50 amps that it says that fan pulls will be at start up. it wont pull 50 amps constantly.

With your 140 amp alt you should be fine with all your accessories. Did you wire the alt 1-wire or 3-wire? 3-wire might be better with the loads you will be pulling.

Re: any input on the differences in electric fans

I'm using the DER-16927 for my ZZ350.

Disadvantages are that the fans pull 50 amps, as stated, and that the thermostats included are calibrated at super low temps, 160* for fan 1 and 190* for fan 2. So, you essentially have to buy an adjustable thermostat to use in place of the 160*.

I am going to be using one of those Delco CS144 200amp dual rectifier alternators here soon enough. Right now my wimpy little 80amp delco can't handle the 50amp draw of both fans, so I leave the cooler t-stat fan disconnected by pulling the fuse in the fuseable link. The alternator can handle the draw just barely; forget about it with hot cammed engines with super lumpy idle and low vaccuum. I'd have to keep the RPMs up when running ac with both fans connected.

One fan is enough to keep my engine more than cool if I'm not using AC.

Re: any input on the differences in electric fans

I went and looked at mine today and it is an Old Air setup made for my 71 or 67-72 not sure. If you get a dual fan you can set it up temp wise anyway you want as far as temp settings go depending on your thermostat. It is in my build thread.
