Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
I need an "inspection" sticker for my 400HP crate engined 91 K5.
Anybody know of anyone around here who'll oblige? |

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
I just saw a grandmother on Boarder Wars get popped with 10k street value worth of fake stickers. Sad part was everyone had Inspection misspelled "Inspecion"

Make it safe and legal and then go to the inspection station.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
I sure hope you're not asking someone from the board to provide you with an inspection sticker without actually getting your truck inspected. That would be quite illegal I'm sure! Why not just take it to a licensed inspection station and get it inspected. If you know or are afraid it won't pass inspection I would say fix what's wrong with it first. Inspections aren't just to keep you safe but the other motorists as well.

I have seen some with signs that say "no pass no pay". One of these might be worth a shot.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
You can get one at any place that does inspections. If you can't then you are asking for something illegal on a public board. It would take a pretty big idiot to try and help you commit a crime on a public board. It's not that hard to make a 91 with 400 HP pass. Just put the converters back on it and go get it inspected.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
No idea how to get one without an inspection, but I bought a Camaro in June that had a May (new) sticker on it and there's no way that car could pass inspection.
No horn. The seat belt was tied on on one side and a hole cut in the belt ro run the bolt through on the other. Various lights not working. etc. |

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
Take a pic of a valid one and print it. It'll work as long as you don't get pulled over for something else or if they run your plate..... in a pinch...... say if you have to drive a long way to the inspection place.... otherwise I could not condone such behavior....

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
Take it up, get it inspected, if it fails, you have to throw a couple hundred bucks on it to try to fix it, then present the receits and they will force pass it. Read up on it:

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
Hey YoYo, Let me guess, your probably a Texas State Trooper trying to run a sting operation on this truck site. I would have to say that 99.9999% of the people on this site are law abiding people. I've gotten a few Va. Inspection Stickers many many years ago when I was young but the way things are now-a-days and I'm a little wiser, I wouldn't even try that now. Fix the little things on your truck so it's legal and then get it inspected. I bet if you got busted with an illegal sticker, you would get a hefty fine, possibly loose your license and that truck wouldn't see pavement for a few years. Just a thought.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
I worked at a dealer that got busted fudging used car stickers back 20 years ago, it was not pretty and people went to jail because they were ignorant and were afraid not to because they would loose their job. any job is not worth jail time.

i will never understand why people have to cheat the system... if you are not a good enough mechanic or have enough common sense to make your truck pass the local laws then you don't deserve to own that truck/car/whatever it is.. you gotta pay to play.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
Hahhaa seriously? You guys are paranoid. I usually post on CK5, but there's not much decent knowledge in there for engine stuff, mostly offroad etc.
I called around a few and read up on the force pass scenario, or low mileage waivers. I put 6K on the truck last year, 1000 above what's allowed for a waiver. I think even with cats my truck won't pass. My best bet is to go to Sherman or elsewhere for a safety only. Here's pics of my truck so you all know I'm not some kind of narc. I actually appreciate the info on this forum, but I figured it was probably not gonna yield much to post. It's not about cheating the system, most of you all have been in my position before, so don't judge me like some criminal. It's the fact that I don't drive this truck all that much (6K miles per year) and that I'd have to jump through hoops to get a decent smog reading. The truck will pass safety without a blink since the truck was a one owner and bone stock. It's smog I gotta worry about and the non smog counties are telling me that they'll run my VIN, see it's registered in Dallas county, and tell me to get a smog. Has anybody been able to get a smog test to read better by leaning out the carb? Last edited by Yo!; 01-27-2011 at 12:39 PM. |

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
LOL, just covering our own asses.
On the 80s trucks I've been working on, the best thing is to get working cats, and make sure all the air lines are hooked up to the carb and can (running with that vacume pressure those lines are ether blocked or hooked up or it runs crappy) the only time you'll have a problem with my trucks is if you welded stuff shut. otherwise its easy to just hook the lines back up. Sorry, not much help.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
No worries. I guess I could weld in cats, but I'm severely limited on space and these things aren't cheap.
The motor is super fresh; I just got done going over the top end about 4 weeks ago. Manifold vacuum is 19" at 850 RPM, 23" at 2K, and steady, so there's no leaks that could possibly mess with the emissions. It's as healthy as it's going to be. I may not be schooled on what exactly is required of us for 1991 vehicles. The engine is crate and carbed from EFI, I thought that in itself was enough to fail. But doing further research reveals that's not an issue? I guess as long as it passes the sniffer, which we all know it won't do. It does have fresh ignition/plugs/oil, and I run 92octane. I was thinking I'd try and get it burning clean by cranking up my fan tstat and getting the motor a little over 210 with a low tank and octane booster, maybe even leaning out the carb to a point of near stall. I feel like I'm trying to pass a drug test hahahaha. I'm obviously looking for the easy way out. No doubt I'd lose a little HP welding in some cats, which sucks. Plus the cost, bc cats aren't cheap. And the space. Again, I don't have a collective 14" of space on either side to accommodate catalytic converters. Last edited by Yo!; 01-27-2011 at 01:07 PM. |

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
Not legal and not condoning it but I have a boss that has some sort of 'exhaust dump' set up before the cats so he can basically bypass both the converters and mufflers with a flip of the switch when he wants the power.

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
That's certainly a consideration. But then I'd have to buy or fab up dumps as well as cats!

Re: Anyone in the Dallas area know where to get an "inspection" sticker?
don't weld them in.. make them removable.. you could make some header flange type connections on each end of them and them do the the same on a straight piece of pipe, put the cats in when the test and then removed when done... rinse and repeat.
