63 axle + wheel wide

Hei my truck is on the way home from madison to norway,.. so i cant check this before i got it home.. but the problem is that i know about some rims, i would like to buy

SO my question is how wide can my axle with wheels be?.
if i buy those rims the total length with wheels mounted on axle, will be 75" Will it work????

the owner of the wheels, going to Oslo (my town) to morrow, so he can bring the wheels with him, from the other side of the country... so i need to know it today

Would be very thankful if some one can check!

Best Regards Ståle!

Re: 63 axle + wheel wide

The 63 axle width should be 62" from the wheel mounting surface of one drum to the wheel mounting surace of the other drum. At 75", you're adding 13" of width & that's prob going to be a tight squeeze on a stock height truck & too much for a dropped truck.

You need to provide more info for us to help answer your question of 'will it work'.

Fleetside bed or step-side bed?
Wheel diameter?
Wheel width?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

A fleet is prob limited to 5" beyond the C/L of the wheel mount surface. That would yield 62" + (5" x 2) = 72". You mentioned rolling the fender lip so that will help, but it's difficult to be sure if there's enough room for 3 additional inches. It's going to be close. This is all based on the rear end width & the wheel offset/back-spacing which you need to confirm. It's very common to have the rear housing swapped in from a later model truck (they are wider so offset/back-spacing become much more critical).

Re: 63 axle + wheel wide

1942: this may arrive to late to help but here goes:

My '66 fleetside has a '71 rear axel (1.5" wider than stock), 275 x 60/15 tires on 8 inch wide wheels.

the wheels have only 2" backspacing, meaning 6 inches out from wheel mounting surface. tire side walls extend 1 and 1/8 inch past wheel each side.

just measured: this setup is 78" total.

yes the fender flanges have been flattened ("rolled" would be too kind a term)

truck is lowered 3". when I tried 10" rims with 3.5" backspacing, the extra 1/2 inch out from WMS caused the tires to rub slightly.

How did you arrive at the 75 inch total for your proposed setup?

Are you 100% that your wheels only have 2" bakcspace, and 6" the other way.. ? good to know, if its right.

My truck will be dropped 5" rear, will maybe be a little more difficoult than, but i think i just wait with this, till i got it home.

1942, yes I've measured them before. I think it's a really good idea to wait till you can measure what you have. does the truck currently have 5 lug wheels or 6?
