383 Build Help

Ok guys I am working slowly on my 383 stroker build.

I was wondering if there is a good place for a complete set of specs for my build. I am wanting somehting pretty strong on the lower end (tire smoking take offs, but am not too concenred about lots at the top).

Here is what I am starting with in my parts pile:

Holley Street Avenger Carb (believe it is a 750)
Edlebrok Performer Intake
New HEI
8 MM wires
The tranny is going to be the 350 for now...

1. I am thinking that I need a good master build Kit: Which one is the best and most compelte?

2. What cam set up should I run?

3. Are Aluminum Heads worth the money?

4. What about Exhaust Headers? Hooker? Headman? Others?

5. What else should I consider to make a great little motor?

Thanks a bunch all

PS Realize that I am not so worried about being able to go really fast, but would like to get from 0-60 in good time... I am not really interested in getting to much faster than 80...

Re: 383 Build Help

Somebody with more exp will prob chime in but im running a stroker I used the scat kit, keith black pistons, comp 3/4 race cam, bowtie heads, stealth intake, 750 carter, hooker super comps, 8.8 msd wires and a felpro master gasket kit, I am running a 350 trans but it has been heavily worked with a 3200 stall converter and 4.56 gears

What exactly does heavily worked mean? I know I will need adjust my stall, but what else did you do? I am running 4.10 gears now. What do you think your HP and foot pouns will run?

Thanks a gain. I am just looking at options. It seems that since I have a good carb, intake and ignition I really need to focus on my cam and heads for completing my power. I am wondering how much of a difference there is from one 383 stroker kit to the next. I saw a super chevy build with a $200 cam, $480 kit, and a $750 set of heads. That all seemed really well priced.

Re: 383 Build Help

Find a 96+ ROLLER BLOCK!!!! It'll already have the 'vortec' heads.

Scat bottom end, then maybe some vortec heads XE268 Camshaft, then maybe in the future upgrade to bigger cam/heads.

Re: 383 Build Help

i used a scat bottom end, 9.5 to 1 compression probe forged pistons,210 cc procomp aluminum heads, lunati cam which you could run with or with out stall converter, but converter recommended, 650 holley double pumper, If you are keeping compression low , don't expect big horse power numbers, most 383's range from 365 to 400 hp, and they are infamous for being bottom end power torque monsters
you can play with the cam shaft advance to get more bottom end power, i advanced my cam 4 degrees hope this has helped
