Cool Re: 30 spline in a 63 axle

The 30 splines fit right in providing the lengths are the same,You will need to change the spider gears or the differential. Did my 64 with no issues at all.

Yes those parts should work just fine in your '63 housing. Some other parts you will need are all the bearings, seals, rear cover gasket, as well as a ring and pinion. Two of the bearing kits can be found by clicking on 'Suggested parts' when viewing the Eaton posi unit.

Re: 30 spline in a 63 axle

Make sure the gear set you are going to run matches the diff unit (3 series or 4 series), for example, the unit you selected is for 3:73 or higher.

I have a '63 and did this no problem. I built mine with 5 x 5 30 spline axles from Early Classic (kit included bearings and seals), Detroit Truetrac helical gear posi from Jegs, and a new gear set (3:73) from Summit.

Good luck.

Thanks for helping once again!

Here is what i found on 'Suggested parts' when viewing the Eaton posi unit.

This kit inclueded a lot, but not seals and bearing... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RAT-316K/

Do you have a link with a kit who includes Seals and bearings? or only a link for Seals and bearings?

Best regards from norway B)

Re: 30 spline in a 63 axle

It looks like the only things not in that kit are the wheel (axle) bearings and seals. Since it sounds like you are trying to get most everything you can from Summit, I would contact them (email?) about the wheel bearings and seals. Summit also sells original replacement parts, so they should be able to supply the rest of the needed parts for you. All truck 12 bolt rear differentials should use the same bearings and seals.

It looks like that is what you need for the rest of the bearings and seals. Not a bad price either.

These from Jegs are for one axle only. You would need to purchase 2 of these. Also, since you are purchasing new axles, they should come with new wheel studs in them. So buying more wheel studs would be not necessary
