New to the site, With a few Q's
Hey guy's my name's Kasey. I'm eighteen and just got a new pickup. It's a '84 c10 swb with a 4.1l and a three on the tree. Definatly something uncommon around here.
I love this truck. But it's got 135k on it, and has a few small problems. Mainly with shifting. I'm thinking it's the synchronizer's but not 100% sure. The linkage feels loose. Atleast at the shifter, on the collumn. Any suggestions? I found some bushing kit's, but all for older trucks that use a different setup. If anyone is interested, i gotta share a pic of my sweet new ride |

Re: New to the site, With a few Q's
Welcome Aboard ! Ya gotta do ^^^^^ anyway or you'd get; To your shifter problem; Get a helper to move the slack in the shifter while you look at the shift arms coming out of the column under the master cylinder, If these arms don't move with the shifter movement the issue is in the column. If the arms do move with the shifter look at the linkage bushings/Holes in the arms and the end of the linkage rods for wear/slop, Do the same check on the trans shift arms. If all are tight and the trans shift arms move while your helper is moving the slack in the shifter and the arms mounted to the shift forks are tight the issue is inside the trans....

agree, unusual set up. I've never seen a square with column shift.
I have owned a few high mileage cars that behaved like a different car once the the shifter bushings were replaced, so good advice on that one! Best of luck! |

Welcome to the forum Kasey. Looks like a solid Texas truck to start with. What are your plans besides getting it shifting properly?

Re: New to the site, With a few Q's
Hey guys, sorry i was away from the computer for the last two days! Thanks for all the compliments!
Right now, i plan on rebuilding this other muncie tranny that is the same as mine, and have it ready to drop in the truck. After i get rolling with work i want to build a new engine, one without the integral head ofcourse. Probably bored.30 over, a mild cam, and possibly a 4bbl. Unfortuantly, my truck was backed into a day after posting the pic here, so i've been busy with that mess. I'm getting the check in the next couple of weeks, so that will be fixed. |
