Re: installed a sun tach

Is it a diesel? I see the shift point is set at 2,300.
That's a great price. It's right there where you can see it.

Re: installed a sun tach

Great price, I think I paid over twice that at a local auto parts box store.

That is exactly where I put mine.

I did however move the shift point quite a bit higher, lol.

Re: installed a sun tach

I have always had Sun Tachs in my vehicles since the early 80s,never had a problem with any of them.I had mine mounted on the column, but when I shortend it I mounted it on top of the dash.Soon to be in the dash.

Re: installed a sun tach

truck is parked for the winter and i haven't had a chance to set the shift point yet. Is the reflection bad at night with column mounted tachs? i hooked the lights up to the dimmer switch, that should help.

Re: installed a sun tach

Its to populated here with too many street lights to get a reflection off the windshield, barely need dash lights to see the gauges.Besides I have it wired through the dimmer switch.

I have the exact same problem. I've been thinking about making some kind of visor to fix it. For now, I usually put a ball cap on it at night.

Re: installed a sun tach

I don't have a sun tach but that is where mine is mounted and yes it reflects enough to give me a heads up display on the windshield I just hooked up my dimmer and turn it way down. Bad part is how much brighter the lights are then the dash that the dash is really dark.
I wonder if I could pull the bulbs and lightly spray them with some high temp black to darken them up.

just a thought.

Re: installed a sun tach

Looks great, love sun tachs. The sun tach in my 70 C10 doesn't light up the windshield while driving at night, its mounted on the column and lights up just like it should. Drove it on an hour drive at night and never had an issue.

Re: installed a sun tach

I had a board member build me a nice new dash and had him leave out the factory tach because I want to do one just like yours mounted on the column ... looks cool, the way we did it when I was a kid...All it needs now is a red, white and blue garter wrapped around it LOL
