Need advice on brakes

So. Does anyone have some experience with brakes i.e. is just redoing the system with front discs and proportioning valve enough?is a booster worth it? And can I even run a booster with the limited vacuum I have running a gear drive?

Re: Need advice on brakes

I'm not sure what running a gear drive would have to do with engine vacuum or the lack of it as that would depend on what cam you were running. The lumpier the cam the less vacuum you could expect. I like power brakes but then I like to be able to stop when I want to and I'm getting too old to want to apply the extra human effort to stop one without them.

If the truck has power steering you could run a hydroboost brake booster off the powersteering like the diesel and some later Chevy trucks do and I think the one tons (at least 77) did. A lot better brake feel with them than vacuum boosted.

Right, I meant less vacuum from cam, not gear drive (duh) but I like the idea of hydroboost. Has anyone bought the one CPP makes?

Re: Need advice on brakes

I have a complete used setup on the parts board (Mc prop valve booster brackets linkage).

Is your truck have stock cam? Lumpy cam? You may hunt around and find a FAQ on the hydroboost.
