Power Steering Conversion

I'm getting old. I want to convert my '72 C30 402 CID to power steering.
I did a search in the archives and didn't see an answer to this question.
1) What years will match my '72? Will anything up to an '87 fit?
2) Must it be out of a big block? I have a 402
3) Must it be for a 1 ton? I have a C30
Thanks............

Re: Power Steering Conversion

The most difficult piece of this puzzle will be the power steering pumps and pulleys. Getting them to line up is a major pain. Being a bic block probably won't help matters. Best bet is to pull ALL of the parts off a donor truck or else plan on playing with different crank pulleys, PS pulley's, water pump pulley's and spacers. Or you might get lucky and find exactly what you need on the first attempt...

I think that the box and drag link piece will be easy and fit just fine. I assume that your frame has the dent behind the box and the raised pads for the mounting points?

Re: Power Steering Conversion

I haven't checked to see if the indent was there. Do you know what years will fit?

Re: Power Steering Conversion

You need to do a little research on the board. I think that any year up into the 80's will fit but the lines might have jumped to metric at some point, don't state that as fact though...

Depending on how much you want to spend you could start at NAPA and order rebuilt items from a 72, then find the pulley's and brackets.
