gen 3 cruise control. i need help!

i've got a 1985 chevy with an 04 5.3. i'm lacking the cruise control. at the stock (85) cruise plug in the engine bay i've got 5 wires.

blk
tan
lt blu/blk
dk blu/wht
lt grn

i know the tan is the power as i've got 8v when the cruise power switch is on and 0v when it's off.
i can't get anything on any of the wires when i push the resume/acc or when i push the set/coast buttons. i've looked around on the internet and can't find any cruise wiring info. can any of you guys help? i've got the info on what wires are what on the 04.

i've finally found a diagram for another vehicle that shows what i was pretty sure of. when you switch the cruise on, it sends power to the tan wire to the cruise module and one side of the res/acc and one side of the set/cst in the switch. i must have some bad wiring because i get continuity correctly through the switch, but it's not there under the hood.(at the cruise module connector)

Mine is drive by wire. I ran the wire on mine from the tac module inside to the wiring from the switch. it has 4 wires from the switch and the tac module has 4 wires to hookup for cruise. They hook up color for color save one. I cut the switch harness out and pulled the cruise harness out and used that hole and grommet as the pass through for all of the necessary wires for the swap.
If yours is drive by cable, you have to get some other components to make it work. The stock cruise reads a vss signal from the speedo cluster. The stock speedo is spendy to make work with the ls trans as you already know I am sure. The following link is handy. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...driven-tb.html

Got mine hooked up just fine. First wire in all of the required stuff... power, ground, brake, tcc input, vss. The wire color from the cruise control switch 4 pin connector has the same wire colors as the NNBS switch... simple as that. Now weather or not your switch is any good thats another thing to check. need to find you a chart that will give a continuity readout of each pin pushed and not pushed. I have one somewhere..
clint

I'm currently using the set button of the cruise control as the tow/haul ..ie transmission performance table

Re: gen 3 cruise control. i need help!

mine is DBW also. i've got 4 wires on the 04 TAC module to hook up for cruise.
set/coast is dk blu
cruise on is gry
resume/accel is gry/blk
stop lamp supply voltage is lt blu

i'm using a stock speedo from a 91 burb. it reads 25% lower than actual speed. not sure what the story is there. i'm thinking it's a parameter error in the PCM?

Re: gen 3 cruise control. i need help!

does anyone have the information to tell me which wires are what on the 1985 cruise control connector that plugged into the module?

clyde-mine's drive by wire.

man, it's really embarrassing to be struggling with four little wires. i was just trying to splice it into the 85 wiring. i can "hardwire" it into the switch if it comes down to it.

I installed a www.rostra.com unit in my truck. Now they have electronic versions. The vacuum control works great! It will the throttle to the floor to keep speed if necessary. Worth every penny.

what part are you struggling with? yes you will have to hard wire it to your switch as the switch tells the cruse control module what to do.

Re: gen 3 cruise control. i need help!

i was trying to use the wiring that went to the original cruise module. i'll just wire it directly in and delete the excess wiring. it'll never have anything but a gen 3 in it again anyway. sometimes i get bent on doing something a particular way and won't let it go. thanks for the help. i really appreciate it.
