You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

Ok, going out on a limb here. I've been a member for a few months now, and I've learned more about old Chevy trucks than I ever have. But I've got a question!

Members of this forum have many diverse, really nice trucks, but I've noticed that, while when I was young they were "da bomb!", it seems as though the 4 wheeling community has moved away from roll bars. Am I just getting old, or is it really a bad thing to think roll bars are still "da bomb?"

I'd like to see some pics of good ol' redneck trucks with mud flaps and roll bars! I don't have flaps on at the moment, but I do got a real redneck double roll bar! And brother I'm here to tell ya, there's lots of rednecks in South Dakota!!!

Rednecks sound off!

I dunno, I think roll bars still have their place on certain trucks. Yours looks great with a roll bar but I am biased towards monochrome paint. Had it been a chrome double roll bar I don’t think it would look like such a clean fit.

Nice truck by the way!

Thanx for the kind words. She still needs lots of work, but, she's started every day since I bought her, and it's been super cold here. I'm just curious to see if anyone is still running the bars. I'm actually starting to question whether or not I want to keep it! LOL

Never been a big fan of lightbars on my trucks, but only because I dislike how much space they take up in the bed. Patriotgames65, that is a good looking shortbox!

Re: You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

I think the main reason the roll bars faded out was simply because most all of them are purely for looks. Not meant to hold up to 4.5k+ of truck.

I like my old LUND spoiler.

Re: You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

LOL Hey, I've always liked the look of a roll/light bar myself. Being closer to 50 than 40, when I was younger they were all the rage. You never saw a built 4x4 without one. But then again, we used to like to put air shocks on the back ends of our cars and put 50 series tires on and jack the ass way up in the air. How times change! Thanx for the comments, three guys outta how many on this forum like the roll bar look?!?!?!?

I've been in roll overs in trucks that were equipped with them. Believe it or not, they DO work up to a point. I realize they aren't designed to take the entire weight of a full size truck, but I've seen em work first hand. And as far as ditching things that are there just for looks, then you'd have to get rid of your nice paint, your nice rims, your polished chrome, your grill, etc. etc.

Here is my 82. The bar was put in by the previous owner. Not sure if I am going to keep it or not.

I know exactly how you feel. A big part of me wants to keep mine, if for nothing else but nostalgia. But sometimes I want to ditch it and blend in with all the other "non-roll bar types".

Like the truck. Looks tuff!

Re: You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

Buy a bender, a welded, and some DOM. Make your own roll bar. You can style it however you like, and unlike most all the ones you buy it will be strong enough to protect you.

You can also make it so you don't lose all your bed space.

I'd be interested in one sorta like a hybrid between a roll bar, and a headache rack. Do two hoops spaced about 12" apart, and have link bars in a ladder pattern connecting the hoops. On the inside of each hoop have braces triangulated into the bends. Then expanded metal for the back of it. No link bars extending into the bed. Since they don't really help much anyway.

Re: You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

I asked my wife about roll bars and where they went not too long ago. I was thinking about the double, triple and quadruple hoops on some of those bad boys! LOL This is my current daily driver:

I think it would be cool to put a roll bar in it as the wife has said "no" the the ladder rack idea.

Now I am wondering how a roll bar would look in my newest project, a 1966 K20:

Cheers!

Re: You might be a redneck... Pics of trucks with roll bars!

Since the early-80s I have had the need for ladder racks for the type of work I do. I build my own and I build them strong, yet not bulky. Do they count as roll bars? Because mine sure did the job when my '95 landed on it's lid. It was just bolted to the top of the service body
