Need new fuel line, suggestions???

I need to put a new fuel line in my truck, the PO kinked it but never told me and found theres a lot of rubber line that scares me. I havent noticed any power loss or sputtering but just want to be safe rather than sorry so im wondering what kind of fuel lines do you guys use, and how do you do it?

I decided to go with Steel Braid AN-6





Here, the Steel Braided Line ends and converts to 3/8" hard lines to the in-cab tank

I use the long pieces of 3/8 hard line from the parts store. Cut and bend as needed. It runs about a buck a foot. I warn you, that AN hose the guy posted above is pricey.

The -AN fittings are what cost the most, oh and the double rail on the carb was about $80. I figure I have about $300.00 from the carb to the in-cab sending unit.

Wow thats a little pricey for me this truck is going to be a DD and not fancy, but it does look awesome.

an stuff is expensive and uneeded 99.9% of the times on street bound vehicles. Most people buy it becouse it's pretty and they see the guys on the race track use it. They are also real easy to take apart and reassemble once you have everything all figured out.

There is no reason not to do what Tx said up there. Steel fuel line will last 30 to 60 years ... give or take.

you can use the regular steel lines or there is a new type with an alloy that is easier to bend from what i've read tho i've necer used it myself but will try it the next time// ask at the autoparts store about it (sorry dont know the name)

i start at the pump, i'll use a piece of 1/8 rod or coat hanger as a template to get the first bend from the pump up to the block and going up/that is the hardest section to get right after that it's just a couple of simple bends

Ive heard that before, i forgot the name to. I think im going to have to remember to keep the old fuel line as a guide...

I think they call it green hardline. It is very easy to bend and I think it's even cheaper than normal hardline.

I've got a #10AN coming out of the tank, reduced to a #8 thru the pump and filter, to the carb. The braided is top dollar, but is very abrasion resistant, and lasts a very long time. I had a braided radiator hose that I had on every Chevy I ever had for 25 years!No failures. No Bull!

thats what i did so i can use minimal rubber line cost me about $6 for a 72inch piece of 3/8 at advance auto they have different lengths

Is there any difference in the fittings between brake and fuel lines?

I did what Hubscrub did and bought some of the new ez-bend green brake line to run a fuel line from the pump to the carb but couldn't get the new fittings to stop leaking. The guy at NAPA told me, "Oh yeah, brake and fuel line fittings are different," but he didn't have any hard line fuel fittings so I had to cut the new hard line and feed the fittings off the old fuel line on the line, which stopped the leaking but looks like crap.

I want to redo it and would like to use the new fittings that come on the brake line, but am now confused and gunshy. I can't imagine that they're really different and others don't seem to have this problem, so maybe I just got a bad line or something?

yeah ... most common fuel line is 3/8" ... most brake line is 3/16" ... big difference.

I don't think they are different... I used 3/8 napa lines on my burb, they said brake line when I got them, but I can't say 100% they were actually listed under brake line.

I have all the pieces to do my fuel system I havent done it yet my fuel cell has a -8 outlet (have a fuel cell mounted under the bed) I have a reducer going down to -6(3/8) then a 90 degree with a barb fitting im going to run rubber line to a fuel filter then to my electric fuel pump then to the frame rail were im going to run a aluminum 3/8 line all the way up to the front then I will run rubber line to a clear fuel filter then up to my carb im useing barb fittings or flared ends everywere I atach the rubber line. rubber line will work just fine it wont last 50 years like metal line but much easier to work with and alot less fittings to deal with just cheep hose clamps and nothing special you have to order you can pick it all up at your local parts store

mine did leak at first but i retighted it and been good since as far as i know, got an antifreeze leak now

You can get 3/8 aluminum fuel line from Summit.
