Carb Return Spring
A friend rebuilt my carb and I was going to replace the return spring so it looks more presentable. Is there supposed to be a simple hook on the end of the spring that I've circled? I suppose I could find a "universal" spring that fits and use that. Thanks.

Re: Carb Return Spring
you have your PVC and breather hoses reversed the PVC goes to carb the breather to the air filter spacer
i just use hardware store springs or for lookin good the boatstore has ones that dont rust as fast

Re: Carb Return Spring
Here you go:
He's got the hoses right. It just doesn't look that way because of the heat stove pipe, and oil fill extension.

Re: Carb Return Spring
The part of the spring in the circle? If so, that's what I'm trying to fix.
I took photos of the carb, etc. before I took it apart so if it's hooked up wrong, Grandpa had it hooked up wrong. Let me know if you have a photo I can take a look at.

Re: Carb Return Spring
Although I have a Dual spring it is still a Soft spring, making my pedal very soft to the touch. I got mine from a carb shop. Not sure what you will find at Home Depot or a Boat yard. I've always been told the harder the spring the more the throttle bushing will just wear faster.

Re: Carb Return Spring
Interesting...I've got the spring in your photo as well. Looks like you don't have the smaller, longer spring that I've got on the front of the linkage. Can somebody clarify if the spring I've got circled in my original post is factory? I'm beginning to think I can just remove it.
Thanks. Pre-carb rebuild pic as I was taking the linkage apart:

Re: Carb Return Spring
I have never seen one factory with that front spring. my service manual doesn't show it either.

Re: Carb Return Spring
You say you have that spring AND the stock location spring? You might want to investigate why the second spring was put on. Maybe something is binding somewhere and the one spring wasn't enough?

Re: Carb Return Spring
Ha, you nailed it! Drove the truck home from my brother's house this evening where we had been working on it for about a month. Found it odd that it would never kick off of high idle at stop signs, etc. and then it dawned on me that I had removed that spring. I wonder if perhaps the factory spring has lost it's ability to return the throttle linkage?

Re: Carb Return Spring
O'Rielly's has carb springs in the help section, if I remember right.

Re: Carb Return Spring
Picked up a dual spring tonight. Going to install it tomorrow and see what we get. I'm assuming the dual spring is just a safety measure?

Re: Carb Return Spring
Stay away from chrome ones, brittle central. And yes it's a safety thing. The dual spring are usually with one lighter and one stiffer.

Re: Carb Return Spring
FWIW, i have used the chrome ones and never had an issue. with the double springs that i have bought i generally just use one cause i find that the double spring is just too stiff. i do keep an extra set of springs just in case the one i have on there breaks
