'burban barn doors - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I was cruising through a JC Whitney catalog last night when I came across a setup to replace newwer truck tailgates with a pair of swinging doors.

I thought they looked kind of cool and it got me to wondering if a set of 'burb doors could be chopped at the window and used in the same fashion.

I'm not too familiar with the Suburban. Do the burb door lines follow the truck lines and would that section of the door be approximately as tall as the bed? Could one remove the window section of the door from the rest and "bolt" the doors on?

I realize it wouldn't be as simple as that, but I could get an idea if this is even possible without major fabrication.

Interesting thought! Might be tough though.

Now that is one I thought of......the lines do follow fairly well, but I think you would have more luck cutting a drop gate in half and modifying that then to chop a set of barn doors...........

phew....serious moments strain to much.............gotta stop..

If memory serves me, and it may not.The barn doors lean in at the rear of the truck somewhat.I think it would be too much for the body lines to match but it might be possible to tweak things enough.If you look at the 'Burb/Panel rears you will notice the taillighta are different and the top sticks out about 1 1/2 in.Also only one hing is in the lower portion of the door so the other would have to be relocated or new ones fabbed.You might consider using the lower rear section of the 'burb including the back section of the fender.
