Yes, you are correct, if it's driver side dipstick you need the early type of one.
No one ever listens to me on this, but I have found the best dipstick and tube is one from GM, not aftermarket. They fit the block tighter and leak less than the Chinese crap they sell aftermarket.

Re: Oil dipstick tube sb 350
That piece you are showing is the lower tube. It's in your block the wrong way. It's goes in from the top with the flare up. Tapped in and seated in the hole. The lower tube keeps the stick pionted down and way from the rotating assemble.

Re: Oil dipstick tube sb 350
How far should the tube be sticking out into the oil pan?

My tube is loose in my block (rtv'd it multiple times). I think its leaking oil there too. What now?

Re: Oil dipstick tube sb 350
It only hangs down a coupla inches in the pan area when you get your dipstick it will come with another tube that you drive down on top of this tube. You can leave it a little high then when you drive the top tube in it will push it down far enough. When driving in the top tube take a 1/4" bolt and put it in the tube then tap on the bolt to drive it in
