69 Power Brake Upgrade

I am swapping out the axles on my 69 4X4 with a donor set from a '78. Since my '69 also has manual brakes I was going to try to use the power booster from the /78 as well. Does anyone know if this will work, and if not, where can I get the right booster. Thanks.

Re: 69 Power Brake Upgrade

You may have to do something with the rod that attaches to your brake pedal - the length could be different. I believe you will also find your hard lines that go to your master will be different so you will need some adapter fittings to go from one size to another.

You'll be going from all drums to disks up front so you will need to use the 78's proportioning valve also. I did a similar change on my 70 K5 and went ahead and just made all new front hard lines so I didn't have to have adapter fittings. The 78's rubber front brake lines are different than you 69 and also require adapter fittings - when I figured that, that is when I decided to run all new hard lines up front. Hated to have adapter fittings at the master and also had the rubber line connection.

I think the hard line for the rear brakes fit the rubber hose at the rear axle, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Re: 69 Power Brake Upgrade

Thanks alot Jack, sounds like it is definitely doable. Do you remember if the brake pedal rod just needs to be cut off, or am I going to have to fabricate something?

Re: 69 Power Brake Upgrade

Followed the booster bracket trimming and coupler pics in this thread when I put a 73 booster/master on my 68.

I had to drill one more hole on each side of the brackets to mate the firewall. No mod to the pedal arm on mine.
