SO-CAL Speed Shop Event Tour 2011

Like most of us, the last few years have been pretty rough. I myself had to close my SO-CAL Speed Shop in early 2010 because it was just too tough to keep a small business running in this climate- and then on top of that my wife decided it was time for a divorce after 21 years at the exact same time. Ended up sitting out the remainder of the year without even the smallest jobs hiring.
Fortunately the winds of change have blown my way and the main SO-CAL guys have asked me to take the show back out on the road for them and I'm leaving this Saturday to start a tour of the indoor Autorama shows in the mid-west and hopefully keep planning events to attend for the remainder of the year while I'm out there.

The first six events I'm attending are-
Feb. 11-13 Kansas City
Feb. 18-20 Dallas
Feb. 27-29 Detroit
Mar. 4-7 Chicago
Mar. 11-13 Des Moines
Mar. 18-20 Omaha

The real reason I wanted to post this is so that while I'm traveling I could perhaps visit a few people and check out local collections and junkyards and post the adventures here on the board as an ongoing blog of where the road takes me since it just me alone in a van with a couple days inbetween each city to see the sights.
Please let me know if you think there's something cool in your area we should check out and share on the board. Thanks very much! Jim

Jim....looking forward to reading about your adventures and antics. Don't live anywhere that you'll be, but it oughta be fun.

Yes, I work for "the" SO-CAL main store in Pomona, CA- and from 2006 to 2010 I owned and operated my own franchise store SO-CAL Speed Shop Los Angeles that was located in Long Beach, CA.

Like the others, I'm not in your path of travels, but it sounds like fun. Sounds like you've had a rough year. hopefully this is the first in the chain of events to turn everything around and make things better than ever.

that's cool man, one day before i'm old and can't move i am going to take a trip to the west coast and see and tour as many hot rod shops as i can.. i've got and have had a SO-CAL sticker on almost anything i've ever had that had wheels... i just love that culture and everthing that goes along with it... my grandad used to have hot rod magazines laying around all the time and i remember as a little kid reading about what SO-CAL was doing and had done..

Re: SO-CAL SPeed Shop Event Tour 2011

Hey what do you know, you're coming to Des Moines. You must be doing the World of Wheels show circuit? What kind of things do you want to see? Here in down town Des Moines there is a place that buys and sells muscle cars called American Dream Machines. They usually hae some nice stuff, and some not so nice for the money. Imagine that huh? There is a place in Cedar Rapids called Duffy's that has a lot too, but it's about 2hrs away. It would be cool to get you in here, but IDK if we could. You might have more pull in your position than I have. http://dalesdesigns.net/chevy.htm Most of the old junk yards are gone, but I know of a couple places we could go if you had time.

I see Kansas City is your first stop. Being a SoCal guy I don't know if you own any warm clothes but you may want to invest in some.

Well it looks like I'm going to have a car and and possibly a truck at the show now. I'll do some investigating to see if there is a way into the Aubaugh collection.
