Parts originality opinion - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Guys (and gals) I need your opinion here...

I have a 71 that has a majority of its original parts. I am replacing the power train with new. It is a 350/350 lwb 2 wheel drive....question is, would you keep all the original parts for resale value?

well this is my opinion on it and like they say opinions are like @ssholes everyones got one lol. the best thing about owning the truck and doing the work yourself is the pride you put into making yours better. I doubt much of mine except the frame will be original when Im done. it would make worth less to a car book that prices them. but the way I see it Im not trying to please that book. If I ever have to sell it in the future, Im going to be crying so bad it dont matter how much money I get out of it. to me the trucks part of the family. the wife's just lucky I havent found a strong enough place in the house to park it yet. we'd be loosing part of a wall.

in the end its all up to you dude if you want it to be original make it that way. if not go nuts with it. youre the one who has to be happy with it after all.

I think you are asking if you should store the removed parts or sell them. Myself by nature would keep them. Used engines and transmissions don't bring any money any way. That way, if you do want to sell it and a purist starts crying that he would gladly pay top dollar, but it isn't original, you can say leave me a $1000 dollar deposit and come back in two days. When he returns you can present him with an original pickup and he can then give you huge sums of cash. That is all assuming that you have the luzury of having a place to store the parts. Me, I keep way too much crap, so you sholdn't listen to me. How's that for advice that doesn't tell you a d@mn thing??!!:p :p

I agree with Yellow Cheyenne...if you got storage space then keep the factory goodies hidden away so if you do sell someday (we hope not) you can include the factory parts. Some buyers want the trucks as close to original as possible but most people dont care. I've modified my 70cst to some degree but it would not be that difficult to get it back to original.
