292 4x4 engine crossmember questions...

Is the 292 4x4 engine crossmember different from the 250 and V-8 ones? I have a 67 K10 that I bought with a swapped in 327. A bunch of stuff was stolen out of it when I had it sitting outside a friends shop making room in mine for it. I should have made room first but I saw it on Craigs list and drove 400 miles that same day to get it.........

For some reason I am thinking that the crossmember in the bed was angled because of the off set mounts on a 292. It was 5 years ago and I am finally trying to find all the parts in my shop I had to buy to replace the stolen ones.

Please tell me that 2 wheel drive 292 mounts will work on a V-8 crossmember that i have and i don't have to find an angled one or different brackets because I remembered wrong!

And of course any pix of the crossmember, mounts and clutch linkage stuff would be great so i can match up what i have.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: 292 4x4 engine crossmember questions...

The 292 engine cross member in the 4x4 is different than any other cross member. It is angled. I'm not sure about the 2wd 292 cross member. If your putting a 292 back in the truck you'll need a 292 4x4 cross member.

Re: 292 4x4 engine crossmember questions...

i was under the impression that the cross member for a 2WD 292 was offset from one frame rail to the other. i'm hoping it's the same crossmember for a 4X, i want to drop the 292 into my 69.

This is correct info. Good job Gary. If you look in my build thread you can see how the previous owner fabricated the V8 4x4 crossmember to fit the 292. My build thread is in my sig.
