Good places to get motors?

I live in a really small town in the boonies and as there are few scrap yards they consider what they have worth its weight in gold. I once asked about a dana 60 and got a quote for at least 2500. I wouldnt want to know what they want for newer motors. Some of you seem to score really good ls motors for great prices. I need some good online wreckers that I could get a motor and tranny from, hopefully with the wire harness and computer. Im wanting a corvette motor/tranny combo, so if anyone could point me to some good sites to find a good motor it would be greatly appreciated. please help a guy out

I would try http://car-part.com/
Then select the type of car you want the motor from and search the US for it or the areas near you. It works great, that's how I got my motors for great deals.

I agree with Matthew, car-part will get you fair deals. Mine came from craigslist though.

I've had good luck with

http://www.clevelandpickapart.com/

Not always the cheapest, but very honest and up front folks. Great customer service.

Re: Good places to get motors?

My dad just scored a complete 5.3 with everything but the transmission from the local LKQ rep. It's coming out of Houston, someday, when it thaws out. I got my 8.1l from LKQ of Portland. I have heard some horror stories about LKQ, and some good stories. We have used them twice, and had good luck, twice.

I also use www.car-part.com and discovered Lloyd at Bailey Auto Parts in Pocatello, ID and got the remaining parts I need for my swap shipped out today. Nice guy, and he went above and beyond to help me out.

Local yard doesn't work for me either. Our local yard here in Reno thinks everything in the place is plated with gold or silver. So I have to shop online. You might also try www.specializedpartsplanet.com/, based in Rancho Cordova, CA, a suburb of Sacramento. Several guys on the board have used them and seem to be happy with them.

Just my .02, hope it helps, and good luck.

Re: Good places to get motors?

I to found that the local wreckers wanted WAY to much. I brought mine up from Schram auto off of their ebay store. Came with everything I needed, even got the DBW gas petal.

Good luck.
