Is it me or the neighbor?

I was tinkering on my '64 GMC a couple hours ago and my across-the-street neighbor approached me and ask if I was "working on this old truck". I said "yes, I am" at which point I expected her to say something encouraging or complimentary considering the time, effort and expense I've put into this truck over the past twenty months. Instead, she said "I wish you would move it off of the street because it is really ugly". I was stunned. All I could mutter was "really?". She said "yes, it IS ugly and that I should move it onto my driveway or someplace else". I told her that the truck is insured, licensed and inspected and that it has as much right to be on the street as any other vehicle in the neighborhood. Then she said that it looked like a "Mexican truck" and that it has been on the street for weeks. I told her that she had an ugly attitude and she was prejudiced and that the truck was going to be around for years so she better get used to it. She said "we'll see" and stormed off. I am still shocked and awed! I have attached a picture of the truck as it sits today vs an image from around the time that the truck was given to me from the widow of a friend of mine. My friend died from head and neck cancer. His suffering and humiliation was immeasurable. This truck was never something that I expected to own, but I could not refuse the offer of a free truck especially since I had known the truck and it's owner since 1979. My daughter took an immediate liking to the truck because she said that it looked like Bella's truck from the "Twilight" movie series. So with the motivation to fix up Tom's "old red truck" as a sort of tribute, as well as my daughter's interest here I am just trying to do the right thing. Now I feel angry and a bit discouraged. Thoughts?

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

dont let her get yah down. its a beautiful truck in my opinion! in fact id be more than happy for it to live across the street from me! like you said its licenced and tagged so there really aint nothing she can do about it.

my greatest condolences about your friend i know how hard it can be. its really admirable that your doing the truck as a type of tribute!

just remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and im sure there are alot more people that behold her as beautiful then one crappy neighbor who thinks shes ugly.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

That neighbor deserves a flaming sheeet bag at her front door.
What a horrible person. You have a great truck and are doing a great thing. I feel sorry for the bitter witch and even more sorry for her husband if she was able to sucker one into a life of pain by her side.
You should find an old beatbox stereo and throw down some seriously loud Mexican tunes everyday you work on the truck.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

I did turn the truck around to show off the pukey green colored front fender. I'm thinking about hanging a Mexican flag inside the widow facing her house. I do feel a real need to install a locking gas cap since a bag sugar or a hand full of sand in my gas tank would be a real bummer.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

New wood, tires, shocks, tailpipe, brakes, hoses, wipers, turn signal switch, headlight switch, stoplight switch, tail lights, tail gate decal, water pump, master cylinder. Freshly painted hubcaps, rear fenders, bedsides, front bed panel, tailgate, wheels. Replaced front bumper, front inner and outer fenders, grille, Rebuilt heater, radiator, passenger window mechanism. Power washed engine, changed spark plugs, rebuilt carb. Added air cleaner, glove box knob, heater knobs. The only things left are rusty floors, corners and a coat of paint on the front half of the truck.

I am sure she will change her tune when its done. It was very premature to judge it when it is half way completed. The truck is a big improvement from the original photos and your going in the right direction. Pretty soon it will be the best looking truck in the neighborhood.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

Screw the neighbor!!! Im all for playing the "Mexican" music when your working on it. when your done for the day, put it on the street so she can see it!!!!

Encourger her to move, cuz your gonna be there for a long time with your "Mexican" truck!!

I mean no offense to our Mexican neighbors, im just using her term!!

I like the truck!!! Keep up the good work and im sure your property value is up too with that classic work of art in the yard!

Opinions are like @@@holes- everybodys got one. What a witch.
Is there anyway that you can legally park it in front of her house instead? That would probably really get her rockin'.

Lol, I've got two, lets go. Heck, don't worry about her man. That truck is not lowering the value of her property or anything so tell her if she doesn't like it, just don't look at it.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

Can we say "**** that *****" On these forums? Cause if so,

**** that *****!!! The nerve of some people that think for good reason that they are better then anyone else! From the sounds of things you handled it really well and much better then i would have! I would have told her to get lost and that my truck looks better then her stupid ugly face!

The blured out portion of my response was somethingk like, "Buck that Which"

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

the mexican circus music is a great idea! id also tell her you feel bad about the menopause thing and all and an ice pack might help the hot flashes and then ask her if she needs a hug.

truck progress looks great BTW!

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

I think you should invite all the other local old truck owners and their old trucks over for a BBQ at your place...........every weekend for the next six months.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

People don't get it. What she said was quite rude. The grace in that is what comes around goes around. I honestly would not start stuff with her, as thats bringing you down to her level. It may be fun (yes it is) but in the end, it just makes your life have more drama. Work on your truck, be proud of what you have, and the fact that your daughter is involved.

Just know that she clearly has a lot of problems in her life and none of them have to do with you, you were just there for her to take it out on. I agree with everyone above.

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

This is starting to get silly.I here this alot. Even if its not about cars. If these people dont like some of the things that go on in neighborhoods, they should move. So many stories about "that is ugly" or "i dont like when you do ......" Why do people think they can move in and start trying to get people to "clean up their yards". I thought this was america? People need to start getting along.....lol, ill get off my soapbox now. I got plenty more where that came from.

You neighbor is a @#$%...
Ignore her... dont fan the flames...
Just live your life. If she comes up again, tell her you already know her opinion and dont care to hear it again!

Re: Is it me or the neighbor?

I might get some heat for posting this, but this subject has come up before. The retarded redneck advice given by most tends toward an in-your-face retaliation that can ONLY make things worse for you.
This person will likely find others that share her narrow view, and when they all make noise about it, you will REALLY have trouble.
Maintain your calm and explain your noble intent to see your buddy's truck project to completion. No reasonable person can object to that.
Also, bear in mind that NONE of your neighbors wants to look at a pile of crap (from their perspective) out on the street for years to come. Do what you can to make it tolerable for your neighbors, and keep up the progress so that everyone can enjoy the transformation.
