posi or no
i just took my rear end apart because i was driving and when i hit the brakes my truck was making this rumble noise in back shaking my bed well i thought it was my brakes nope my seal from the axles were worn out and the oil from the rear end got in my drums and making it my pads stick and not braking had to take everything apart well after all that my bro told me my rear end wasnt a posi so just wondering is it or not is a 10 bolt my truck a 87 so just let me know

a limited slip differential was an option. The factory Gov-lock posi is pretty weak. There is an aftermarket locker called a powertrax that can be installed with out removing the carrier therefore no ring and pinion set up required. they are @ the $350 price range. I'm not sure on the durability, but I would think they gotta be better than a Gov-lock

The powertrax unit is the unit that Stacey David installed in project Knuckle Buster on his show. Looked pretty simple. The other option is to build the entire rear end to install a limited slip differential/gears. You don't need a posi for the street in my opinion.

I haven't used the Lock-Right unit from Powertrax yet, haven't needed one so far. But they are reputed to be strong - not as strong as a Detroit Locker, but far better than the G80. Plus, as mentioned previously, installing one doesn't require setting the gears up again - bolt on and go.

The part of setting up a rear axle is getting a proper gear lash, or wear pattern between the ring and pinion set up so it will last. Like I said, I haven't done this, but the Lock-Right is advertised to be installed without disturbing the ring and pinion. So yeah, it's supposed to be a bolt-on locker.

if your doing a few too many power launches and hard burnouts eventually youll end up spinnin your axels to the point where the oil gravitates away from the gears and you'll grenade your rear end so you'll need a new rear diff anyways lol. so safety is a reason to grab one and also ya they are fun as hell
