1955 GMC heater
So I'm missing pretty much all of the heater parts on my truck. The only thing I have is the heater core and the blower motor. Are the controls and whatever else I am missing the same from 55-59? If someone has a pic they could post up I would appreciate it, so I can see exactly what I am missing. Thanks!

Re: 1955 GMC heater
If you have a standard heater 55-57 Chevy and GMC are the same, 58-59 Chevy and GMC the same. If you have a deluxe heater 55-59 are the same but Chevy and GMC are different. Here is my deluxe heater.

Wow, what a nice looking setup you have there. Really nice. Is that India Ivory? What is the green color called? The steering wheel really sets it off.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
Here's a thread with some stuff about DeLuxe heater fix:
http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55581 and here's a bunch of pics of my heater repair. Mine came out pretty good, heats the cab OK in Phoenix. maybe not saying much. http://s685.photobucket.com/albums/v...0heater%20fix/ That thing you found in the shed might be part of a non-DeLuxe heater? |

Ok so the deluxe heater, thats the one that has the rubber sleeve that connects the blower motor to the heater core box and they are mounted side by side right? The picture I posted up, could anyone clarify what that is? I thought it might be for a car or something, not a truck. I will post a picture of my heater core and blower motor tomorrow. It has the blower motor and heater core in one "box" if you know what I mean.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
yes, side by side. rubber band between kick panel and fan box and another between fan box and heater core box. The one they're selling for between the boxes is way too small. At least the one I got was.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
Ok, so I probably have a standard heater because there is a plate that blocks off the hole where the blower motor goes on the kick panel. That clears some things up.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
The green is 56-57 Chevy truck Ocean green. The Ivory color was supposed to be Bombay Ivory but did not end up being the right shade.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
I remember using a delux GMC heater in a 57 Chev, the heaters are the same the controls are different, because of the hump in the GMC dash.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
The box for the heater core is different for a GMC than a chevy. A GMC heater will fit a Chevy but a Chevy heater will not work in a GMC if it has a radio. The tubes for the defrost ducts are in different spots. Also the wire lever for the defrost flapper is bent at a different angle.

Re: 1955 GMC heater
I no longer have this truck, but the knob for a standard heater truck goes in the hole filler panel. This truck had an after market heater originaly with the control knob under the dash. I have a panel with a original knob and switch I can take a picture of.
