What do you guys think of these rims?
Hey guys,
I'm hoping to do my disc brake conversion withing the next 2 to 3 weeks, and I'll be needing to get new rims for my truck. I was originally going to go with my stock steelies and hubcaps, but I was recently informed that they won't clear the calipers so I'm gonna have to get something. I've been looking around for 73-87 6 lug stock rims off a k series but the ones I was able to find were more than what I wanted to pay for used rims. What really sucks is I got new tires on the truck 4 months ago so I don't really want to buy new rubber. Because of that I'm looking at my options for 6 lug 15x8 rims with 4in or less of backspacing. So far these three have caught my eye...and partially because they're cheap too . It's my half Polack and Chink genes, what can I say. all 3 are cragers and under $60 a rim. Right now for some reason I'm really liking the last one of the three. I can't really say why but they caught my eye for whatever reason. The first ones are my second choice, they're powder coated gloss black. Here's a picture of what my truck looks like. Keep in mind that I will be changing the paint from either a flat black to a two tone dark blue and white (stock color scheme) or a black and white (again stock color scheme). I do not want chrome, my truck will have very little in the way of "shiny" stuff on it. It's just not my thing and I'm to cheap to replace the bumpers and grill. The truck will also be staying at stock height for the foreseeable future. A possibility later on may be to "level" the front and the rear but nothing more drop wise than that. also please note that these pictures are from before I got rid of the chains the PO used to hold the shocks down...yes chains. He lowered the truck by loading the bed with weight till he got the ride height he wanted, cut a length of chain, and bolted the chain into place via the shock mounting bolts...yes is sucked to drive, my kidneys hurt after the 3 hr drive home after I bought it. Here are 2 pics with the first style on my 66 suburban. Personally I dont care for them, but to each their own. To bad you arent closer. I just bought a set of stock wheels to swap out, I would have traded you straight up!

Re: What do you guys think of these rims?
dang yeah that would have been a sweet deal for the both of us. Right now I'm more in the OH $#*T mode because I really want to get this disc swap done and I need compatible rims to do it. I don't have a garage and I can't leave my truck on stands or the MP's will tow it. You're right though, something about those don't look right seeing them on your burb.

Hey look at it this way. They can't tow it if it doesn't have wheels. Lol Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What do you guys think of these rims?
yeah pretty much...though I did see them tow a vehicle that was up on stands...it wasn't pretty.
Right now I'm leaning mostly towards the Soft 8's (the first one). I think the circles would look better than the D's, and it looks a bit more conservative. |

Re: What do you guys think of these rims?
You really only need to get two for the front.
(for now) I wouldn't buy a wheel you don't like. Find the wheels,... and then do the disc brake swap. (my 2 cents)

I like the stock steelies from the 80's. I plan to get some for my truck one day.

Re: What do you guys think of these rims?
if i understand the issue - its not ALL steelies that hit the disc spindles - its just our era steelies that originally came on drums, right?
another option I would think would be the steelies that coker or wheel vintiques sell - or am i missin something? to answer question i like the round hole version o the ones pipctured |

The only thing I'm debating now is do I get the $100 rally's keith linked me or spend the extra $150 ($250 total) and get new rims, lugs, and center caps. Keith does bring up a very good point about waiting to get the correct rims for the truck, yet at the same time I hate to spend money only to have to spend more later. Seems like I'm sorta between a rock and a hard place with it. |

Re: What do you guys think of these rims?
If your thinking about doing the Super 8's, those can be 17" also, I was/am looking at going 17" Super 8's and using 8" up front and 9.5" in the rear, new wheels and new tires would be about 250.00 each wheel/tire combo. So if my math is correct $1K
