square body saves the day......again

well me and dad were out getting some fire wood the other day in his truck 99 sierra. and ended up in some pretty soupy mud on the side of a hill with a load of fire wood in the bed and couldnt move a inch farther up the hill.

dads truck

then out came the ole square body with no floors steering column half way out of it and no seats. hahah got to love how old chevys have the far superior off road advantages to new trucks.

Re: square body saves the day......again

yea i wouldnt have any other truck for off road/ work horse. these trucks are tough. even with the inline 6 the 4 speed trans makes up for it. i need to get a updated pic of it now, its riding on a 4'' lift and 33's. would be 35's but i didnt have any laying around. the sierra dosent have anything on my truck except the drivablity and creature comforts lol

Very nice. It is crazy how poorly the newer chevy's 4x4 systems actually perform. Even with their "posi" they have, you just never seem to be able to get 3 tires spinning at one given time.

Re: square body saves the day......again

yea i know what ya mean on that, i have a 95 silverado that would get stomped off road by any old square body truck. i have to say it was nice bragging to my dad on how my 500 dollar truck pulled out his fancy new one hahah gotta love it lol. the only thing i would change on the old trucks it the fuel milage and the power and im fixing that when i get a reliable cash flow coming in with a LS2 swap hahahaha best of both worlds

The trucks of old were built and proven tough. The new not so sure.

Love it- Makes me feel sooo good that I restored my dad's original 1984 GMC 1 Ton 2wd PickUp instead of junking it & buying a more modern truck for alot more money.

Re: square body saves the day......again

heck yea if you really wanted to you could build a old truck and make it reliable for under half of any new truck and it would be alot tougher i believe

Re: square body saves the day......again

Looks like tires were the difference more than what truck they were on!
I like 'em both - squares for offroading and stuff where a truck needs to be tough, newer body styles for creature comforts.

Re: square body saves the day......again

yea the tires were a factor but the pic doesnt really show them to well. the tires on the sierra has brand new tires on it now i forget the brand but there a kinda agressive all terrian which isnt very good for soupy mud lol but the old truck tires are kinda bald but ill be honest thats the only pic of the old truck i had now she is rooling on 33's with a 4 inch lift and mud tires so its alittle diffrent lol
