Speaker wiring

Does anyone have speaker wiring problems? I installed 6.5" speakers last year on all four doors. All were two way speakers. I thought the front left door blew up, so I replaced the front two. I bought some nice three way Pioneers from Overstock. Well, it was not the speakers. The front speakers are cutting out or have distortion. I'm tempted to completely pull new wire from the door to the rear radio connection.

Has anyone pulled new wiring to the doors. I'm also installing a 10" woofer this summer. I'm building a box to fit the left rear wheel well. The box will also house a nice amp. I'm running the wiring under the carpet.

Re: Speaker wiring

broken wires in the door jamb boot is not uncommon. usually it is the bigger wires that break though (window power and ground)

Re: Speaker wiring

The boots are in good condition. I'll take one end off and check the wiring. Mine does not have power windows.

Re: Speaker wiring

I ended up replacing my door speakers witn infinity seperates and ran new wiring to avoid headaches in the future. If you've got room, put some split wire loom around the wire where it passes through the door boot. I put the crossovers in the door too, and tweeters in the dash in the factory location. Here's a picture of the box I built about 9 years ago to give you another idea for yours. It's got a 10 inch JL W-0.

It kinda sounds like you've got a bad connection or maybe the polarity crossed at the speaker.
