Re: anyone know part number for belt?

year make model engine size with or w/o a.c. and with or w/o air pump. Need info to get the right part looked up for you.
As I always tell the techs at work (GM DEALERSHIP) get me the right info and I'll get you the right part.

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

If You have an air pump it would be mounted directly below the alternator on the passengers side of the engine.
Belt Part Number from NAPA with air conditioning is 257445
I'll look up the O.E.M. belt # for you when I get to work.
PM me your email address and I'll email the info to you from work as I cannot access this website from work.

Send me an email to my work davidb@aksales.com and I'll get you the gm part number for the belt as well as a belt routing diagram if I can.

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

Maybe this will help you.

Your belt is a 15435 and it does not fit you say.

On a belt, the part number means something. You need to figure out if you need the belt shorter or longer than what you have for it to fit correctly and adjust the part number accordingly.

The 15 in the part number is the width. That part is right for a v belt on these trucks. That won't change. You need a 15___ number belt.
The 435 means 43.5 inches long.

Belts come in 1/2 inch increments.

So, a 15445 would be an inch longer than what you have. A 15420 would be 1.5 inches shorter, and so on.

Figure out how much shorter or longer you need and adjust the part number.

You have to be smarter than the parts store people if you have any hope of getting the right part.

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

well i went looking for this part.
one place wanted to give me some fat flat belts.
other place had similar number to your 15445 but i wasnt sure so i left it and went to napa.
they told me they had the belt i needed.
get there and buy belt....get home and it looks like the same belt i already had here....

question. when i loosened alt to try the belt i had, i had to sent if forward lets say 3 inches. about max forward. and the belt i have will not go over it.
have not tried the new belt.
but should i need a belt that will cover the 3 inches i moved alt forward???
or does the belt expand over time??
i dont think so but worth asking.

also, how do i know what motor is in my truck.
p.o. told me it was originally a 5.0 350???
and said to have replaced old motor with a gm crate engine thats said to be a 5.7 350

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

belts will stretch overtime. you will have to move the alt a few inches to get the new belt on. will be a tight fit and then use a bar to tighten it further before tightening the bolt.

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

wow so 3 inches is ok.
im sure the belts been on truck for years.
but is this something that needs to be pulled on every couple months?
i mean if new belt happens to make it. then ill be 2-3 inches from my rusty markings of old placement

Re: anyone know part number for belt?

as long as the belt is the right width, the length can be off a little. as long as you can get it tight, but it shouldn't be as tight as a banjo string. i think it is a 1/4 inch or so you can push down when it is tight. there are prob specs somewhere, but i just tighten it and if it doesn't squeak i call it good.
