Welcome to the board! Are you adding drop spindles? Most 6-lug rotors are sold by aftermarket companies like ECE, POL, and CPP. You might want to read this FAQ. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...68&postcount=4 About half way thru it addresses 6-lug rotors,... but it's really good to read it all. If you still have questions please ask. You have asked a question that is talked about here alot!

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
cool thanks lolife99.... yeah i got alot of questions really wanna do as much as i can on my own to my 67 project, change parts, upgrade, drop, strip.. the easy stuff, lol not only save money but i get the appreciation of the truck... and yeah i plan go get drop spindles. i wanna go pretty low with it, im currently going to run a 20/22 setup. the front will have 255/35/20 tires.. so im not sure how low i can go, wanna tuck a little tire.. im getting a hell of a deal on some used boyd rodders and wanna use them while i build up the project and drive it.. you know... eventually i'll put 22's in the front but can also just get a higher coil, and still use the spindle setup.. if that makes sense.

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
Be careful buying used 6-lug aftermarket wheels.
Most are made for the '99-2011 Silverado 6-lug front hubs. These hubs are smaller than the hubs on the aftermarket 67-70 6-lug rotors. Most of the time some machine work will be required. (either the wheel bore will have to be machined larger or the front hub will have to be machined smaller)

I have a similar kit from Early Classics Enterprises on my red '69. The McGaughy's kit will work great also!

If you are doing this yourself these threads might help in particuliar removing the bushings by burning them out.

The 67-72 trucks have a different style cross-shaft, a-arm,... and steel bushings.

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
yeah im aware of the spindles i have to buy to go with the brake kit... not sure if im going to do stock spindles with the 4" hotchkis coil or drop spindles with a 2 or 3 inch coil... according to hotchkis seller the 4" coil will not cause any camber wear

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
I wonder how they keep a 4" lowering coil in the pockets. 3" have been known fall out when the "A" arms are extended all the way. Also a spring can not correct for the camber. That can only be done with shims, or tubular "A" arms designed to do so. WES

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
This caught my attention because I had in the past cut my coils down to give me a 4" drop and my coils did easily shift around in the pockets and fall out.

Ya, I love it when a company make claims that are not possible to sell their wares... Most of the time they get away with it, because the customer doesn't know any better. WES

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
You are also going to have to add a Master Cylinder and proportioning valve for a disc/drum setup.

Re: 6 lug disc brake conversion what is needed
I don't have any photos, and I can never seem to explain it very well, however, there is a very easy and DIRT CHEAP way to keep the too short springs from falling out. All you need to do is remove the rubber bumper from the upper control arm, then place a long bolt in it, head side down, and then use a nut on the bottom side of the upper A arm, and on the top side where the bolt comes through. I can't remember how long, nor even the diameter needed for this, but it is real easy to figure out if you have a wheel removed.
To figure the adjustment, jack up the front end (by the crossmember, not the a arm) untill the spring gets a little loose. Lower the jack till the spring doesn't rattle at all (grab it and try to turn it and wiggle it). Adjust the bolt to where it makes contact with the crossmember/top side of spring pocket. Rinse and repeat for the other side and you are done. Maybe some black spray paint to make the stuff disapear. As for the 6 lug rotors... look at the price of the rotors, and compair it to the price of a 5 lug for the same year suspention. Remember that you do need to replace rotors from time to time (more important on a driver than a garage queen). Also keep in mind, that one or possibly 2 companies make this part, for a rather small market. If (i say when) they stop making them, then you will be forced to do something else, and if you have big rims and tires, that could be stupid expensive. Just another view on the 6 lug conversons. I say 5 lug is cheaper in the long run |
