Electric Choke Question
I ordered a reman. Q-jet from Summit about 3 weeks ago to replace the worn out crusty one on my 68. My question is where is the best place to wire up or splice in the electric choke wire? The Q-jet on my truck now is the heat riser style and doesn't work anyway. Choke is wired open right now, very hard to start in this cold weather! I was just wondering where the best place to hook it up on a 67-72. Also if anyone has any tips on tuning the carb after installation feel free to share them! Thanks in advance for the help. Joseph

Re: Electric Choke Question
Any ignition on 12v source will do. Just place a 10 amp inline fuse,
If the source is not fused already. In the picture below, The HEI connection at the firewall would be great. Spike

You can also check the fuse box for open connector with 12 vdc when key is on and wire into it. I believe it's labeled unfused ignition. |

Re: Electric Choke Question
I agree. Put an inline fuse in the circuit with a 5-10 amp. fuse. The factory wired them through a oil pressure switch but it is not nessesary if you don't leave the key on without the engine running when cold. The choke should snap shut when cold when you open the throttle. If you have a hot wire going to it all the time naturaly it wont.
To adjust the carb warm up the engine & slowly turn the idle mixture screws in till the engine starts slowing down. Then back it out enough to smooth it out. Adjust the idle speed by the stop screw on the drivers side. About 750 rpm if you have a tach or just what seems comfortable. You can adjust the fast idle screw by the screw on the pas. side. It is hard to reach. You have to shut off the engine open the throttle a little, turn it & start it up again. The Q-jet is a great carb. when you get it set up right. |

Re: Electric Choke Question
not a good idea to run the choke off the HEI connection//lowers power available to HEI and can accelarate cause of module burnout
