what can i do with a lincoln 225 arc welder

can i use the lincoln 225 to fix cab corners,rockers,floors etc.and can i weld c notchs on with the lincoln 225?,frame repair etc ? |

Frame repair/modifications, yes.
Sheetmetal body repairs, no. The Lincoln 225 is a great welder. Dad bought his back in the 60's and I've had mine for about 10 years and we have never had a problem with them but they are just to heavy and lack control for any light sheetmetal work. A mig if what you want for body repairs.

The only thing that would go bad on the older lincolns is the on/off switch.very well built welders.should be able to get a panel welder down there for around $175 if you look around,these work great for thinner metals like sheetmetal,I've used panel welder to modify an alternator bracket before,welds it but almost 2 thick of material.

Fork out the extra money for a MIG welder you will be better off in the long run.
You can do light weight sheet metal 22ga (pushing it I know) and up --up to ???? well really depends on what kind of welder you get. I was told to either get a Lincoln or a Miller. Me personally, I would get a Miller (generally more expensive) you canbuy one that does MIG, TIG and stick weld. Also try to find one with a duty cycle that typically fits your welding style ie.(30%=3min. of welding in a 10min. cycle this is at a certain amperage too you will have to find out what amperage you are going to run---see below) so if you only weld about 2min out of 10 at your machines maximum duty cycle get at least a 30% duty cycle machine. Just to be safe. Typically 10% d.c. will do. Dave Amperage should equal material thickness 16ga=.062" so you need 62amps and so on

how about a Cambell Hausfeld flux welder : for the body panels .Wf/1900 wire fed arc welder.Low and high settings and automatic wire speed control.Two input settings 115 volt 15 amp, and 115 volt 20 amp.

Flux core welding is difficult on thin sheet metal you would be better off with a gas fed MIG welder Eastwood company has a Lincoln MIG welding package without the gas bottle for $300. This would be the cheapest and easiet way to get good results on body panels.... Hot and small tacks not too big or you will distort the metal.
