60-66 outer rear view placement...

I need to locate the outer rear view mirrors. I purchased brand new after market mirrors and need to know where to place them...
Need measurements/placement.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 60-66 outer rear view placement...

If you're talking about the standard stock mirrors, the drivers door had factory welded nuts on the inside. The Pass. door has a plate with the holes pre-drilled all you need to is punch through the otter skin. My doors are being painted right now and the painted had to sand down through the bondo layer so I can see where to drill out the holes.

Hope this helps, if you look in your door you should be able to see the plate I'm speaking of.

Re: 60-66 outer rear view placement...

Thank you every one. The holes were welded shut. I will have to use the original screws with nuts inside the door. I'm trying to figure out where exactly to mount them...as close to the original place as possible.

Re: 60-66 outer rear view placement...

I hate when PO's do stupid stuff like that, BUT having said that it was HIS truck to do what he wanted.

If thats the case, take the drawing above and just move them down 3/4-1" and put 3 holes in the skin and use either lock nuts or lock washers and nuts I have to do this on my passinger side.

I just reached through the inside of the PS door and used a punch that you push on and it pops to make the dent, then repunched from the outside and drilled the holes.

Re: 60-66 outer rear view placement...

I'd recommend using serrated flange nuts inside the door. They won't fall through a box wrench and are easier to manage one handed than lock washers:

Re: 60-66 outer rear view placement...

Just a note, most of the trucks I've seen (including mine) with the factory nuts inside the door skin mount the mirror parallel to the style line on the door. As indicated in the schematic above by Aerotruk, they are level, not uphill in the front. Perhaps this changed over the years and the newer trucks are different. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
