Anyone use a JL TW5?

I am considering using the JL TW5 w/ my MRP1000 Alpine. It pushes 1000W at 2 ohm and 600 RMS at 4. For information on the sub:

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?page_id=245

Its a 13" sub, shallow mount, 600 RMS max

Im pretty keen on this thing but I am afraid it will be too sloppy for rock and metal music. The local guy told me its wicked and that it will have no problems, but I thought I should get some more opinions! Thanks!

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

JL builds a very solid product that will perform better than ever expected. The TW5 will handle rock and anything else for that matter. Just give it the power it wants and all is well.

Great thanks Ace! I actually saw your post when they were being released in 2007 and I thought about just PM'ing you for a review!

Thanks again, I expect it will be the route I take.

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

Be aware, they have a wierd Ohm load ont he coil. 1.5/3 I think. Not a problem if you run a JL amp, but can be tricky when running amps from other manufacturers.

Also, while the resonant freq. of the sub isn't all that low, placing it in a smaller box might give you what you're looking for and not allow the sub to extend WAY down low. Keeping the box right at JL's specs should yeild perfect results for what you want (don't forget to factor in driver displacement/equivlenant volume). Match it with a solid pair of 6.5" components and you're well on your way to a great sounding system.

Yeah its a 3 Ohm coil and I have the 1000W Alpine, I expect it will be fine, I am expecting to run it around 50% gain, not near the max. I have a pair of Alpine Type R 6.5's and I am planning on getting a 4-channel alpine pushing about 70 W RMS per speaker.

Ah I am not a huge bass man, I just want it to sound clean and good. Are you gonna dump it totally or grab a second?

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

I looked into using one, decided i couldnt afford everything to go with it (amp etc). I was going to buy the JL 5 chl amp to pwr it and 2 6.5" speakers. I loved the low profile sub, it would work great with the limited space most truck have. I went with a low profile pioneer in a custom box with a alpine amp.

turned out pretty good, good solid bass.

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

Looks wicked, is that a 10"? I was considering dual 10" shallows but the local shop swears by the TW5's and wouldn't try selling me anything else.

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

Ah yeah, there is so much free space it makes it look smaller, thanks! Anything Pioneer always sounds good.

Re: Anyone use a JL TW5?

I hadn't planned on it, I rarely head into the city. When abouts is it? I wouldn't mind getting some inspiration.
