New kid on the block saying what up!!

Finally joined the forum but I have been leeching for the past 4 months checking out everyone's rides and projects. There is so much good info and people on here so i can't wait to share my projects and get feedback and ideas from the board!

Anyway, a little about me. I'm a mechanical engineering student currently and have always loved cars. I have mostly been into the import scene building turbo awd cars but its time to start the long term project.

The C-10 obsession started when I was young and got rides from my grandpa and uncles in the family farm trucks. After my grandfather passed he gave the trucks to some of my uncles and now they have been given down to me. They have been beat up and abused on the farm but I feel its time to bring back those childhood memories and wrench some new life into em!

I was given 2 trucks and a spare cab from my uncles and just recently purchased another 64 to start the build off with some straight panels. I plan on building it up with a gen III LS motor, 4l60e or 4l80e trans with either a ford 9 in the rear or possibly building the 12 bolt to keep it all bowtie. Once I get it together I'll eventually turbo charge it just because I am addicted to the pull of forced induction. I still don't know how much I want to drop it or rims... and still debating if I'll toss some thick rubber in the back and tub it slightly... I'll just have to see where it all takes me. But for now this is my starting point and can't wait to modify em!

Enjoy the pics... I'll put more up later.

Travis

Welcome Travis. Looks like you have a solid truck to start with. It is always nice to have a bunch of memories in one of these old trucks. To me, that makes the build that much more enjoyable.

Re: New kid on the block saying what up!!

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I love these old trucks and there really is no explanation for the feeling you get cruising in these classics! This will be a slow build for me since I'm still in school and don't have the cash to toss around like I would like. So get ready for small updates of me replacing fenders or sorting out electrical issues until I can get some money together for and engine swap and front suspension setup.

I knew someone would ask... that pic was taken two years ago so my memory is a little foggy... I think its an older merc... not 100% positive on that. Heres a blown up shot of it, maybe you cans can pin point it!

Re: New kid on the block saying what up!!

Got lucky and found this on ebay. I saw an all original restoration at the goodguys car show a few years back and that was the first time I had seen the factory A/C center vent and knew it was a must have!

My Grandpa gave his 65 4x4 to my Uncle.
To have heritage is great.
Honor your Grandpa - take care of his truck.
Welcome.

The factory AC center vents are really cool. Driving in these old trucks is a blast, people want to talk at every stop. I have met alot of people and made some friends building and driving my many projects.

Welcome to the forum Travis

Looks like you're off to a good start. Nice score on the A/C vent. You don't see those for sale very often.

Keep us posted on your progress and if you have questions.

Re: New kid on the block saying what up!!

Thanks guys,

I'm sure I'll have tons of questions as I have no idea what newer truck parts swap with what, all the different motor mounts.... etc. This is completely out of my element of what I'm used to doing. I was used to only knowing about 4 different models over a span of 10-15 years... now I am trying to soak up any and all knowledge of all chevy's! I'm scared and excited all at the same time!

Also, Congrats Dino for your appearance in the April Classic Trucks Mag! I really admire what you have done with all your rides!

Re: New kid on the block saying what up!!

Here are some more pics of the 64, as far as the whole truck goes the cab will need most of the attention. Of course the front fenders have the usual rust but thats a quick fix from LMC. The previous owner before me replace the passenger side floor and lower step up but I think I'll have to do it over, the lines don't match up and nice as I would like.

Thanks for identifying it! I looked through some older buicks and I believe your right on!

I would love to snag that one from the farm but my uncle is just storing this for a friend of his... He ended up going through a divorce and told his wife he gave them away so she didn't have the option to take them away or sell them. I don't know how long they will stay there since this was years ago so I might just make my uncle an offer he can't refuse since I know it will be another great project down the line!
